Does anybody know how to remove the rearview mirror on the windshield. Mazda Service told me it takes an allen wrench, But they didnt say what size. I've seen threads about this topic but know one really sdays how to do it. I got an Auto-dimming mirror off a totaled mazda 6 :'( Id like to get this thing on sometime this century but I can't figure out the stupid clip.

Bump on this. Is the force downwards (towards the cabin) or towards the passenger side (sideways)?

b**** of a time getting mine off...

Bump on this yet again. Do we need a special tool here? The instructions say a 4mm screwdriver should work..

mine was never on that well - if I get mad wheel hop ive actually had it land in the back seat . . . (hand)

it should slide towards the roof/back

It should, but I can't get the feel to release that clip to have it slide upwards. If it were downwards, it'd be easier....

Great; so I went to the dealer today and they quoted me $52 just for labor to get the mirror removed.

Caveat: risk of cracking/breaking windshield...

gees....were they going to lube your arsehole before they rammed it home?!?!?!?!

Yeah, no s*** right? Unreal; I mean, come on...they're Mazda techs. They should know what they're doing - I was thinking if it was like 15 min @ even $65/hour labor rate I'd be OK ($15 or so and THEY take the risk of removing/breaking the windshield).

Ok, so I did some searching and I believe I had found a post by LinuxRcr; the comment was to "twist" the screwdiver while it was up in the slot.

I did that and lo and behold, off the mirror came. I twisted a 1/4" flat screwdriver, heard a "click" there it was....total money.

It's not the size of the screwdriver, it's how you use it :D....

I'm in autodim/compass bliss now ...

This is an ancient thread, but best way is to stick a piece of coat hanger up there, aim towards the drivers side. Works like a charm.
