How many miles you had before you replaced brake pads

Ive got 33k on my black 5 and Im guessing im going to want to swap them all at 50-60k just by pedal feel and audible signs alone.

It more or so depends on driving style but I had to change my front pads @ 27k. The rears still have a little life left right now and i'm at 49k. The rear pads are a pain in the ass to change so it looks like I gotta take it to midas or the stealership :(

why is rear pads hard to replace compare to front onnes?(help)

Just completed my 24,000 Kms service. Cost $220 Cdn after taxes. I still have 6 mm for the two front brakes and 8 mm for the two rear brakes. Service tech said that replacement should be done at 2 mm.

Compared to what? Most rear pads start out smaller than front pads... and wear more slowly. I'd look up the specs before taking his/her word.

Compared to the Mazda3 which uses the same brake pads/brake system but the car is lighter. The Mazda5 being heavier, has more mass to stop with the same brakes-will wear out more quickly.

I tried to replace mine and there is something on the back of the pad that goes against the caliper piston. It's like an engraved ring on the caliper piston and the pad kinda clips on to the piston... It's weird. Wish I had a picture...

I still don't think 400 pounds is suddenly going to make the rear pads wear "very fast" compared to a Mazda3.

"Very fast" would be brake wear on a GMC Suburban. :)

that sounds like a brake defect!! hope you got it warrantied! I've never heard of both pads and rotors wearing that fast on a car before!!

True, now that I read it, 22K KM is around 14K miles, give or take (boom06)

M5 brake pad question

2006 M5
20K miles

was making a grinding noise when braking so I replace the front pads. To my surprise, the pads look fine...not much wear...but the grinding diminished somewhat...have replace the driver side rear pads (kind of a bee-yotch till I figured it out)...question is...are the brake pads designed to make that kind of noise so you change them? come to think of it, it started making the grinding noise AFTER I got it back from the dealer after some service. Thanks in advance.....

I just had my vehicle in for the 48000K servicing. Front pads were at 2.5mm, so I had them changed out early, as I'm going on a 3000k road trip next month.

Rear pads were still over 3.5mm so they stayed in. I drive fast and brake hard, so it didn't surprise me that the fronts were wearing much faster.

Dang, you guys are hard on brake pads. Mine have at least half left and I'm at just over 59k miles..

I also had to have my front pads and rotors replaced really early. The rotors were warped from the first year I owned the vehicle, and I finally had them changed at the 30 000km point. 3 different Mazda dealers in the Toronto area refused to cover this under warranty because they claimed it was wear and tear, although I think it is ridiculous that a new car should have warped rotors in less than a year!
