Header for the SP20

Hey Sabrelli, I thought you put some extra money in the header buy to get warranty, I thought that will ensure you will get your headers?

Anyway good luck tracking down that header...

8 weeks on... and i still don't know whether my headers been shipped or not!
syd_speed, so is there a trick to putting the spring bolts back on? and any tips on how not to break a bolt on the engine? i've read about others doing the same and the bolts seem quite easy to break.
and i'll be in for a dyno run if its cheaper... whereabouts is it?
Yeah the trick to puttin the spring bolts in is to use alot of force. I had to push like hell to compress the springs so the bolt could contact the threads.

The trick on not breaking the engine bolts is not to force it. If it seems like you are putting too much force into it, stop and take the bolt back out.

The dyno run was at Wentworthville around the Parramatta area. The place is called Rallyquip, obviously the mechanics are rally drivers...There is a really nice EVO 5 in that garage.

Well before header was shipped, Ken told me it would be insured. So i dunno, guess time will tell...

cool thanks for the tips. maybe i'll use some pliers to compress the spring when putting the spring bolt back on. and i'll look out for this anti seize stuff.

and is the $130 for 3 runs on the dyno at wentworthville? i wonder if they'll charge the same if we switch cars between runs :)

and sabrelli, don't worry too much yet. i haven't had any parcels lost yet either, so its probably just held up somewhere. did you have any luck with your local post office? plus you have insurance, so worse case is you get your money back or ken'll send you another header.

Hey Syd_speed,
I got my header this tue!!!!!
So how are u finding yours?
is there a noticeable difference???

Finally man its good to hear that it finally arrived, i have been following this thread for a while and glad to hear your headers finally arrived i can wait to hear how your car sounds on next years Annual Newcastle Cruise

hahaha thanks man.
But i wont be keepin the obx one, im selling it!!!
Getting the AWR installed 2morrow!!!!!

No problems mate!
i just hope i dont break any of those engine block bolts and no issues with those spring bolts down below!!!!!!!
I'd be doin this on my own so should be fun!

Finally...yeah there is a difference in the response, but not much of a noise difference.

Wats wrong wid the OBX, how come people are selling it now?

Neway hav fun with da install. Let us know if you run into problems, I might be able to help.

Nothing with the OBX. as shown by numerous ppl on the forum who have it .
Someone offered me the AWR which i originally wanted.

Any tips in removing those 2 o2 clip thingies?

hey guys, finally got my header and tried to install it today with Sabrelli's help (thanks again mate). Got it all installed, but realised right at the end that theres a bit of steel partially covering the bung hole for the 2nd o2 sensor, and as a result i can't screw in sensor at all. I'm gonna get a bolt tomorrow to fill in the bung hole.

Now since no aussies seem to be getting CELs from missing the cat, the o2 sensor just seems to have no purpose at all on our car. Do you think it would be ok if I DON'T plug the 2nd o2 sensor back in? (i.e. totally disconnect it from the ecu?) I'd rather not have the sensor just dangling in the engine bay.

steel partially covering the bung?

i'd say dont just have it floating free, dangling (well tied up would be better), but still might give interesting results. get the bung fixed asap and drive as little as possible between now and then

it was a bad weld, guy who did prolly slipped or something hence the extra bit of steel just under thread.

And we got SOOOOO CLOSE too.
had new header bolted up..just a matter of tightening bolts to the block
and car was ready to fire away.

Coldie decided to whack the old one back on!!!!!!!!!

yeah it looks like the nut is welded slightly off center over the hole in the header for the o2 sensor, so you can see part of the header tube if you look thru the nut.

so close and yet so far (argh) .... but i can't afford to have my car out of action for even a day, so we put the old manifold back on. but now that all the nuts are loose i reckon i can install it again by myself in an hour :)

i'll try driving around today with the 2nd o2 sensor wires unplugged to see if it causes any problems.

does anyone know what the thread size i need for a bolt to plug into the o2 sensor bung? i measured it and it looks like its around 17-18mm, but the hardware store only had metric bolt thread sizes M16 and M20?

more than likely it would be 18mm compared to 17. But an easy way to compare would be to use something like the bolt at the bottom of the seatbelt, which is a known factor.

good idea!
any ideas where i can buy a short 18mm bolt? the smallest bolts the hardware store had were around half a foot long :)
