What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

Pumped gas today while doing a delivery, as soon as I was leaving at the stop sign, I hear a thunk from the front followed by vibrations and very weird noises from the engine. Immediately pulled over and popped open the hood

Looks like the engine/torque mount on the transmission has left the chat.
Very slowly limped the car back to the gas station to be towed in the morning.

Yeah it happens. If you're brave and have the tools, you can fix it where it sits.

Jack under the transmission, push the motor up
Remove the battery and battery box. This also entails removing the PCM, as it rides on the battery box.

After the battery box is removed, you'll see a black plate, remove that.

Now you see the prize! Swap out the mount and put everything back together.

I thought about that, but none of the parts stores close by had the correct mount in stock, so I opted to just get it done today.

That sucks!

Good call limping it and then parking it. A lot of people would have just kept driving and caused some other problem.

Hope it gets back on the road soon!

Did you notice anything before it failed, like, slightly more excessive vibrations than usual?

I'm doing a proactive replacement of rear and passenger side mounts and this makes me think about replacing all four at this time.

Yeah, I have seen people drive on bad mounts before when I have had to work on some peoples cars. Dont know how they do it it or why.

That was the strangest thing, the car has been driving fine all day at work. Car was not making any noise or vibrations from the front. There was a tiny bump in the road at the stop sign, and after stopping and then driving over it, while turning left, it just made a clunk noise and started vibrating.

Searching for the donor when suddenly I see this:

Note something? I wonder, what's the story behind these two.

Another weird noise, vibrations, pop the hood story...

An hour into a 9hr drive on interstates, I noticed a hammering noise, along with vibrations in pedals, steering wheel. Pulled over, popped the hood, and expected to see the sepentine belt fraying, or a mount failed, but found nothing weird under the hood.

When I told my other drivers on the road trip that I was gonna have to go into limp mode was when they remembered to tell me that a few days ago they'd seen a splash panel under the driver seat (had lost it's clips) was hanging down and now it flapping hard in the 70mph wind. 🤦‍♂️ My revenge was, as they were the largest clips I could recall, was to take a big enough clip out of their trunk liner.

The moral of the story; the engine milage may be low but plastic still gets brittle!
