Radar detectors are nice but when a cop pulls you over and sees it, there is no mercy. I should have grabbed it before he got to me but it all happened so fast.

He even wrote *RADAR* on the ticket. I don't think I have any chance of beating this. Any advice on how to keep points off my license?

grab the detector down next time. throw it under your seat. last time i got pulled over, the cop didnt even notice my detector- i have it behind my mirror so all i can read is the text display, that way, when he comes up to the window, he cant see it at ALL :)

btw, no getting out of it, the radar detector further proves you knew what you were doing :(

just accept responsibility maybe write a letter to justify it to see if they bring the fine down. In michigan they cant reduce the points. its either you fight and win (rare) or accept all the points. judges here cant reduce points.

more than likely his went off, but the cops have INSTANT ON or laser- by the time your detector shows it, its too late. the cop already has your speed.

Yea your screwed. I just got pulled over again Sunday. I have been pulled over so many times but only gotten two tickets ever since I was 16.
1 - Illegal tint
2 - Rear licence plate frame covers tags
3 - No front licence plate
4 - Driver's licence has incorrect address <- enforced now in Ohio

Damn I guess I should figure out a way to put that licence plate on the front w/o blocking too much of the IC.

oh by the way... he got you using "RADAR" not that you had a RADAR detector.

The cop was going the opposite direction as me. As soon as I saw him, he turned around and turned on the lights. I didn't think they could clock your speed unless they were stationary. The radar went off but I had the radio turned up. This kind of thing really happens when you least expect it.

absolutely not. K, Ka bands they can get you ANYTIME.
LASER is the ONLY band the officer has to be STOPPED to get a accurate reading with.

We clocked a guy doing 104mph going the opposite direction of the cop using Ka band. Extremely accurate depending on doppler pitch

I thought of that but at the bottom it says Equipment used, and Radar is checked.

they note the technology they used, and also, there IS a spot for a radar detection device if you had one, and type.

in michigan they are TOUGH to fight. the officer talks first, how long he has been radar certified, the conditions, and how much you are over. If it was the 90s, you could see the last time the unit was calibrated, but now, these days, the units self calibrate before an officer goes out for a shift (in michigan at least)

Hum this is what I will do(since I got off 3 out 4 speeding ticket)
1. request a trial, they will set a court day for you.(should be 30-60days after the ticket)
2. extend the trial day 10 days before the trial.(give you another 60days)
3. go to court(cant extend the trial day anymore)
4. Hope the cop doesnt show up, if he doesnt show up, YOU WIN!!!!( you will get your money back)
5. If he shows up, you can ask for last chance Traffic school before the trail.
You will have to go to Traffic school if you dont fight the ticket or the cop shows up. But by fighting the ticket, you have a chance of get away with it.
The last 4 ticket I had, only 1 cop showed up. I was pretty lucky :D

Make sure you get the last chance traffic school before the trial started, if the cop shows up. Do not go on trial if he is there, YOU WILL LOSE FOR SURE!!!!!! Plus if you lose the case, you will have to pay for the court fee as well.

you were VERY lucky. police will get REPRIMANDED for not showing up. they HARDLY ever miss. its their duty to report. a cop that doesn't show risks his/her job to an extent.

Thanks for the advice people. The ticket says Court Date June 3. I'll go but I'm so guilty, it feels pointless trying to fight it. If the officer shows up, I don't know what I could say.

some courts, if you fight and are found guilty, you may be required to pay court costs

oh and crock- just trying to help :)

I always thought I'd be really mad or upset after getting my first ticket but I really don't. The cop wasn't a dick and I pretty much deserve it. It just sucks that my insurance is going up. That's really the only thing bothering me.
