Finally got my tires replaced today with the Toyo's. Just waiting for the 50 mile break-in and i'll give my opinion of them.

It's been a long time waiting. Last year my brother unfortunately hydroplaned into a right-turn island bending my left struts and brake rotors into crescents. Obviously the wheels were replaced. Anyway, we used our coin to repair it all and didn't leave much for the actual problem source...the tires. Until today.

So now I am back to "square one" and beginning to save up for my real plans for the car. Hopefully these tires are as sticky as they say they are...

Will follow up..

I certainly am enjoying mine... they grip well.

What is supposed to happen then... get better, worse or wear out? I have 10k miles on them now and have no complaints.

give it 15k miles and let me know how you like them...

Well, its been a bit damp today after an early rain fall but I took her out today. Maybe because they're new but the grip is definitely a whole lot better. There is a gentle left hander to a backroad straight I like to use for testing out things, and it is a turn I usually take at 60kph. With the Dunlops the most I did was 70kph before it start to break and squeal. (Note: I did this at 35psi on each tire). But with the Toyos I managed to hit 80Kph with no squeal (same tire pressure) and continued to accelerate. I am now searching for its break point.

Just be careful of the soft sidewalls. I've had mine for about 7000 miles and had loved every aspect about them until yesterday. I did a VERY SLIGHT curbcheck, I'm talking tiny (I've got about a 1/4" mark on the rim) but I managed to puncture the side of the tire, right in S in "Proxes". Luckily I was pulling onto my street when it happened so getting home was no problem. Had I been going fast the entire sidewal could have blown out causing a disasterous wreck.

I've always heard Toyos don't have a stiff enough sidewall and are prone to bubble, and now I'm a little more sure. Could have been a fluke, but I think I'll be paying a little more attention to whats on the road in front of me.

Thanks for the tip TX... yah I kinda noticed that too. I'll definitely look out for that.

Mine were so much better than stock. I used to hydroplane all the time with the original factory tires, but the proxes are so much better in the rain. Also my car came with 195s stock and i got the proxes in 205s and there was definately a noticeable handling difference as well.

Wow, I curbed it real good a few weeks ago... enough to screw my rim up real good (bang). No lasting marks on the tire tho... I'm running 215's too.

Just an update....

After 25K km tire wear is good and the grip has stayed close to the way I got them. As far as winter driving was concerned. They are not the best in the snow but wayyyy better than the stock dunlops. Just don't get too agressive in the winter and you'll be alright. So far I am loving these.

Geez, I seriously doubt I'll get 25k out of mine. 10K maybe.

The Proxes won't squeal. The breakaway is nice and progressive, no sudden surprises like some tires. The sidewalls are to soft for me so I run all 4 corners at 40psi and rotate them at each oil change (about 5000 miles). I should get about 28K miles out of them by time they are done this summer. In the winter the launch grip (or starting out up hill) is poor when it's slippery. Otherwise I love them but I plan to move to the T1-R when these wear out. Might put Proxes 4's on our minivan though.

I think he is stating distance in KM. (canada) 25,000km = 15,000 miles. BTW, I am considering these for my P5 but I would be looking to get 30,000 miles out of them. I don't want to be shelling out for new tires every year!

I know that. I really don't think I'll get that kind of mileage, and I rotate every 2000 with each oil change as well. I have an agressive alignment and also autocross on them once in awhile.

No worries then

What is the majority of the foul weather you experience in Portland? Rain? Snow? Is that what lead you to the Proxes4 versus a Max Perf Summer tire?

I'd love to be able to leave that much rubber on the road when I drive but still retain the cold weather benefits of all season!

really?...mine suck in the snow...i can't make it up hills and s***, it's pretty bad

I am alright in the snow, but like I said they're not the best for snow. But they're really good with everything else, slush, light snow etc. Relative to the Dunlops though its like night and day, the proxes are so much better. Maybe its the softer wall?? I don't know.

Oh and just like every tire choice, rotate w/ every oil change.

Well, I took first in all local STX autocross events last year against primarily Falken Azenis clad Subies and some with Kumho MXs. These are the "preferred" tires for STS and STX. I wouldn't consider them to be a non-performance tire. When you step up to the T1-S you get a different tread pattern and a mileage warranty. You don't get the mileage warranty on the 4s.

We have all kinds of weather here, lately it's been sunny or rainy, not much snow this year. The stickiness of the tire, as well as the lateral tread blocks led me to use them for autocross, but I really like them on the street as well. They have the same silicon rubber compound as the T1-S.

Well, my Proxes 4's will be used up sometime this summer, for a total of about 28-30,000 miles of mostly highway commuting and probably 4 autocrosses. Your mileage may vary (drive)
