how long should you wait (if you should wait at all) before switching to synthetic?? I'm about 2700 right now, and was wondering if I should switch @ 3000 or wait longer?

Thanks GUYs!

i switched at 5000 miles also and have had no problems.

as for going back to regular oil: i am not sure if it is ok to go back, but why would you want to.

once you switch you really shouldnt go back, or is that a myth?

I think that is another myth. I can't think of any possible physical reason why it would hurt to switch back.

when would it be too late to switch to synthetic?

when your turbo goes kaput:D

j/k. don't know for sure, just don't change over until after your engine is broke-in.

did my first oil change at 5k and that is when i went with mobil1 15W-50.

it has been over 7 weeks and 1700 miles with no probs.

I switched to Mobil 1 @ around 4,000 miles. I just changed it again about a week ago @ 10,000 miles. All seems to be great and I plan on using no other oil than Mobil 1. As far wanting to switch back after changing to synthetic, it really doesn't matters as long as you "completely" drain the old oil and change the filter. I would not advise that you switch it more than twice, if you do decide to go back to regular oil I would not switch back to synthetic again.

My Protege 5

I topped off my oil recently with Mobil Syn. 5w-30 since from the dealer it was missing about half a quart, go figure. But what weight of Mobil Syn is everyone using??

It's never really to late to go to syn, as long as you use the reccomended weight for your car/milage.

From what I have read, changing back to synth and back to oil MAY make some seals and gaskets leak on a older engine as synth is thinner and cleaner.
