Question about intake..and no..it's not another intake shopping help..

In general if one has an aftermarket intake installed such as Injen CAI, the fuel economy would go down right? My assumption is that since the engine is receiving more air coming in, thus the computer automatically balance it to balance it, I believe is also called the Air/Fuel Ratio?

Anyway, since this afternoon I got my intake installed, I've noticed a dramatic change in fuel. I had about 4/5 of tank (looking at the odometer) full when I install the intake, and by tonight I had about 3/5 left. All I did was I went out for a short test drive down couple blocks from my street, went out for a lunch for about 6-7 miles drive, and went to class for about 10 miles? and I lost a section of my fuel?

Is this normal?

Thanks!

yup.... same with me ... but then again ... it's probably because we're more inclined to keep the tach past 3500 now for that mean growl =p

yeah, if u manage to over come the urge to hear that great sound, then you get better fuel economy

Dammit! Apparently I can't control myself! the intake just SOUNDS TOO NICE that I gotta get my meter pass 3500 rpm!! Also, I gotta love how when it passes 3500 rpm, I can feel large amount of air beeng sucked in and you get this quick acceleration! VERY NICE! I LIKE IT LIKE IT!^_^

*sigh* My parents is going to start asking me why in the hell you getting gas every 2 days when the gas price is so high? *Smack*

Also, how often do you guys get gas now with the new intake in?

Here's my story. I travel from the S.F. Bay Area down to L.A. every couple of months. (About 700 miles round trip.)
When the P5 was stock, I averaged about 26mpg on the trip. (I attributed the pathetic mileage to California gas!) After I added an AEM intake, I averaged roughly 29mpg. Before the most recent trip, I put on my Vibrant exhaust. This time I got between 32/33mpg!
Keep in mind, also, that I've only had my car for about 8 months/11,000 miles. Perhaps the mileage also improved as the car was "broken in."
Just thought I'd share!

i got 31.25 on the way back from berkeley to LA. woot, go chevron. :)

i think my mods will concentrate on upping my milage.... intake here i come...

yes, in theory you will burn more fuel because there is more oxygen coming in

but i have found that due to more power i dont need to use the throttle as much. on a driving holiday me and my fiance took about 3 months ago we were driving around the australian alps. heaps of mountains, thinner air etc etc. anyway, i got 760km's out of the tank and had 3L left in the tank. i dont know that the usa tank size is, but the aussie one is 55L. i have no idea what that is in mpg, but i couldnt believe how well it went esp considering on some of the nice curvy roads i wasnt holding back much.

gee how did i get to that from the intake question? oh yeah...more oxygen allows the engine to burn more fuel, but because you're making more power you dont have to run the engine as hard...so you'll come out sorta even....just dont stick the boot in....you'll go through a tank in no time

later
