Pablo's MSP maintenance thread

i had no idea you bought this! and an f150? alright money bags hahaha. this car is seriously cool, im glad you got your hands on it.

2 jobs pay for all this s***, I just want to drive it to have some sense of how worth it it is. Right now I don't feel too good about it, I keep going back to a 370Z...

I've seen it's performance on the track when Bill raced it. I'm sure once you drive it, you'll know it was worth it. Plus, a 370Z is NOT cheap, especially if you track it. What would the 370Z cost compared to the MSP? I think the 370Z has a base price around $34k! Wasn't the MSP less than $10k?

I've 'crewed' for Bill before, so I know what the car can do. The 370 would replace the MSP, MSM and the truck. I'd get a different beater and use the 370 for summer\track. Yes its not cheap, but won't need much besides tires (I'd be broke again, so no mods). I've driven a couple at work and they feel awesome, so I just need to drive the MSP to feel good about it.

Oooooo that makes sense, it would replace all of your vehicles.

Its frustrating having a car sitting in the garage that you haven't had fun with yet (which will be my next year with the Chevelle), but I promise you that will change when you get out to the track. You should decide if you want a car to have fun with on the street or a car to have fun with on the track, because a car you can barely afford makes a very un-fun track car. You will be too afraid of damaging the car to progress as a driver.

Well, all doubts are gone. Took her to an autox today, feels great. The car is very neutral, only had a bit of oversteer in the slalom but it was easy to catch. 4 runs, improved 5 seconds. Could have stayed for 4 more runs, but I'm too tired and it was damn hot out.

Still need to clean her up and order different vinyl and magnets.

All set

Best run

Looked good to me Pablo. But that made me dizzy. From the sound of it the track walk should have been done with push brooms.

2 questions; how much boost are you running and what's your 1/4 mile time?

You were only 5 seconds behind that badass brand new TT. Good job today, buddy!

LMAO...

So, there's been a couple of times when people ask me about the car. Today as we were preparing to unload the car a guy asks "How much boost you running?" I was really tired and didn't think much about it so I just said 12 lbs (its actually 10). "Yeah, really nice brah."

Another guy, big black dude with a Crown Vic asks me "What does it run in the 1/4 mile?" That time I didn't want to get into the 'it's not a 1/4 mile car' debate so I just said its a 10 second car. "Oh DAMN, yeah I believe that, that thing looks sick yo!"

And the guy in the TT designed the course and laid down the cones, so he knew what he was doing.

Thanks for your help today! I went to Barroco and had your share of food :)

Looks good Pablo. You'll get there. Just need some more seat time in your new ride.

Wow, that is a frustratingly tight course. That is an absolute worst case for FWD. Glad to see you driving it!

I'm not going to lie that course doesn't look like very much fun at all.

What camera are you using? A bit larger FOV would help, particularly for autocross!

Did you rent a trailer to get the car out there? If so, I know someone with a trailer that just sits around 90% of the time. :)

I used my camera, Nikon L310, have it set to high def video. And yes, I got a trailer from UHAL which was a b**** cuz the new manager said he has to hook it up himself to make sure it was done properly. Last time Bill and I did it without an issue, so I had to pick it up Saturday afternoon and keep it overnight on the street attached to the truck. Had to buy new wiring cuz the one I had was all rusted out and didn't work, and he couldn't legally allow me to drive off without lights.

What exactly are you implying with said trailer? Rent it?

I wasn't implying that. :) Just saying that I have a trailer that sits around except for 4-6 weekends per year and if you wanted to use it I wouldn't have a problem with that. I think it would be better for the trailer to be used more frequently as opposed to sitting in a barn all the time.

My trailer has electric brakes so if you don't have a brake controller in your truck it probably won't work. I believe the U-Haul trailers use surge brakes?

I'll talk to you offline about it.

I have a question for more experienced people: would it be OK (safe & legal) to use unistrut to attach the passenger seat to the bracket? Jake and I had a hard time attaching the seat to the stock bracket mounts as its difficult to pass the bolts and nuts.

The rules specify what the minimum thickness of the mounting material needs to be when attaching the seat. As long as it meets that you should be OK.

JB Weld?

I'll upload the one run I took on my phone if I remember tonight.
