Pablo's MSP maintenance thread

I felt it push in some areas and neutral in others, I'll keep the toe in mind.

One of the studs in the front right wheel stripped so I'm gonna have to take it apart again. Also, might do something to get the front camber even on both sides and closer to -3.

Dude it's almost like cheating having Bill look in your thread and give you tips. LOL! Not going to lie Pablo I kind of wish you would have spun or had bigger slides when I was in the car. I had a blast and appreciate you letting me ride along.

Great job!

Here are the three biggest areas I noticed that will help you get faster for next time:

1. Stay on the gas longer leading up to turn 1 and carry enough speed to force the car to the outside curbing on exit. Turn in location in turn 1 is good.
2. At the end of the back straight, the turn in is much too early, turning in later and quicker will allow you to get right on the gas after turn in and allow you to brake later on the straight.
3. At the exit of Thunder Valley turn in later there as well, it will point you further down the short straight to the carousel on the exit of the corner which will allow you to carry more speed through there. Then let the car drift a little further outside before turning in for the carousel to have a larger radius (different than a race line because you don't need to block a pass on the inside).

Also, which springs, swaybar settings and alignment settings do you have on the car right now? It seemed like a lot more understeer than I've ever had (except when I broke a rear endlink) and I wonder if you might need more spring, bar or a little more toe out in the rear to help it come around.

This is right on the money! You have some extra space on the entrance to Thunder Valley on the left hand side of your car. You're almost in the middle of the track when you go to make that right hander. I use the gap in the trees behind the exit of the turn as a reference point there.

Coming over the top of madness in the esses you were fighting the car back to the left too much and eventually you spun because you were carrying more and more speed. Let the car drift out more there and it won't upset the car nearly as much.

Looking forward to seeing you out there in August! (2thumbs)

I don't know where those numbers are compared to what I had because I set camber by tire temps, but if you have the spindles pushed to maximum camber and the camber plates are in the same spot try running that way before adding more camber because you will be giving yourself less tire to work with. The car just doesn't lean as much as most other cars and therefore doesn't require as much camber as others. It would be great if someone with a probe type pyrometer could check your tire temps in the hot pits directly off a hot lap to see where you are.

Its one thing for him to tell me what to do, but its another thing actually doing it.

Good stuff. I'll only change the toe then.

Looking good Pablo! You'll get faster and faster as you get used to the car. I agree with the advice Bill gave you, he's spot on. Definitely don't be afraid to use the entire track from curbing to curbing.

Also, coming out of the chicane into the keyhole (turn 4 I believe), I like to swing as far to the left curbing as I can before turning in. I try to aim just a little to the right of the Mid-Ohio billboard pole and then turn in. This sets up my car for maximum speed coming out of the turn onto the very important straight. You did kind of get stuck behind a little traffic (Miata) in the video, which may have been the reason you didn't track out as far.

I agree with Will, it looks like your turning in to turn 10 just a tad too late. This puts your car almost in the middle of the track like Will said. When you do that, there's not enough time or room for your car to track out all the way to the left before the turn down the hill into thunder valley. I use the left hand yellow curbing for reference and I try to turn in when my driver side front tire is basically in the middle of that yellow curbing.

Since everyone was offered some advice, here's mine. When exiting madness and going under the honda bridge, heading for the entrance to thunder valley, make your entry like a V! Bill taught me that, saved me a couple if tenths

I have some sad news to report.

It was a tough decision, but due to unforeseen circumstances with some family issues I'm being forced to sell the car. After driving it at Mid Ohio I love it, and I'll be sad to let it go. I know it held a big sentimental value for Bill and he trusted me with it, but unfortunately I don't have a choice. I'm waiting to hear back from someone who expressed interest in it, should that fall through I'll update the thread and take offers.

Most likely I'll have to sell the truck as well, so if someone is interested in it let me know.

Dang that's unfortunate! At least you have your priorities straight...family comes first

That sucks Pablo. GLWS and hope all goes well with the family.
