Pablo's MSP maintenance thread

Thanks to pringles, got the left hub off. We couldn't get the axle off though, is there a secret to this or do we just have to keep using pry bars?

You can't get the axle off of the driver's side or the passenger? If you have the half shaft off the hub all you have to do is pull back hard. I just had 3-4 hard tugs on it and it came off. If it's the passenger side then make sure you have the shaft unbolted from the engine. The half shaft is connected to an intermediate shaft (IDK if that's what it's called) so it'll be better to unbolt it there. Besides that it should just pop right off if nothing else is holding it in. Just make sure to use a lot of PB blaster or something similiar.

His axle isn't popping out from the transmission case. Pringles sent me a link to a snazzy axle puller that doesn't tweak the CV joints he may pick up.

My only advice was a pry bar between the case and axle. It's worked every time for me.

Gotcha. You guys and your food names....

That normally works every time, pretty quickly too. Weird.

One of the bearings is done, waiting for another hub on Saturday. Pulled on the ******* thing for half an hour... starting to dig into the transmission

^That pic reminds me of what had happen to me last year. Try rotating the axle (or what is left of it to see if it frees it up.

I did, kept rotating every time I stopped for a break. I also hit the pry bar with the mallet several times.
I used a flat pry bar when I did them. Not easy, but eventually pops out. There is a c-clip in a groove that holds it in. Also, two pry bars on two spots helps keep it straight and makes it easier.

Jake and I tried it from top and bottom, will have to try again

Wow, just make sure you stick it in balls deep if you want to apply full pressure to pop it out ;)

They look... a bit... small? ... and plasticy?

But hey, how about that weight savings! (Gotta look on the bright side right? :))

Someone messed up, just like someone sent me 3 bearing seals when the sticker says 2. The part number is correct, so I'm guessing someone else has my nuts and I have their screws.
