Does anybody have this sub? What kind of amp should i run to it? What do ya'll think about the sub? Worth the money?

yeah, and define "worth the money";) cause as far as I'M concerned, no, it's not worth the money. not when you can can use a single 12 with half the excursion for the same output. the downside is that the 12 won't play the higher freq's as well. but with the 12, you would spend probably 1/3 or 1/2 as much, need less power, and get the same output, with great SQ, depending on the sub:p course the downside to using a 12 is needing a larger enclosure. the only time i think 8's should be used is when space is an issue.

Wake has a good point...and so does 1st.

It all depends on what you want to do...but a good 10" makes great all purpose sub. You can do SPL, SQL, whatever...a 10" can produce good low bass, and crisp enough midbass if you choose properly. But you have to choose the right sub for the right job, seen?

I think using an 8W7 is a great idea, just the thought of having someone sit in your car and be amazed at what a single 8 can do is very satisfying, to say the least. A single 8W7 will provide enough noise to quench your thirst for that extra bass that is needed, but it won't be enough to hurt your ears or rattle everyone's windows at a stoplight. If you do decide on buying one, I would recommend that you power it with a JL 250/1, that will be plenty for it.:p

Why not save the dough and go with a elemental design A series 8 inch. Takes up less room, would match the output.

hmmm....

I wonder if I should put 4 E-Designs 8" subs in my enclosure the next time they put a special on them... I missed out on it last time around. I wonder if my JL 500/1 would provide enough power.

My goal, was to put a small enough sub to have alot of trunkspace, but be able to tell people all i have is a 8 and see that wow look on their face. I really wanted the 13.5 W7 but kind of out of my price range

Je let me think, Im gonna have to say it will be enough power :D

Then mix it with a JL 250/1 and your on the right track.

Does anybody know where i can get the "package" 8"JL W7 and the JL250/1 at?
What kind of wattage does a JL250/1 put out?
Im sorry i am new to all the speaker stuff

250 watts RMS @ 1.5-4 ohms.

Under load the 250/1 can actually put out more than 250W...like if you have it hooked up to 2 ohm load it can probably hit from 300-400W. Very solid design, and great SQ.

so let me get this straight, with the one 8w7 and the 250/1 amp, with the box made to JL specs how many watts should i expect?

The 8w7 is one expensive mother, which is why I would just get the eD 8a at 145$...it is meant to be very close to what the 8w7 is. eD looks up to JL and their quality products, but try to make something different, to an extent, with similar values.

With the 8w7-3 (3 ohm) you can probably get around 300W RMS, I believe. That'll be right at its thermal limit according to JL, who recommend the 250/1 for the 8w7-3.

The eD 8a is rated to do 350W continuous in a .25 cube sealed box. So again...the 250/1 is a good match. Hell, if you want it to hit real hard you can go with a vented box at .5 cubes tuned to 30hz like eD suggests, and it'd probably sound pretty sick. The only issue I can see is that it's a dual 4 ohm so when it's wired you get a 2 ohm load connected the 250/1, which will toss more power than 300W. You can always turn the gain down a bit, of course...

I would toss in Adire Audio and Resonant Engineering's names here, but I don't believe that they make an 8" sub of this quality/level.

edesignaudio.com

They make some damn fine products...and they give you box designs as well. You can bring the blueprints they have on the page with the 8a's specs in to a shop to get it done...or better yet, just build it yourself...really doesn't take much!

- EDIT -

See...I'm not the only one here to help! :D

I would say the 8w7 is worth the money. The sub is very clean and crisp, And it also can pound if you need it to. I was so impressed when I heard the sub that I will probly get on this month. What sold me on the sub was when I personally heard it out perform 2 10" subs. The 8 was in a honda element, and the guy he put to sham was in a old mustang with the hatch back.

^^^

Dude....that's great! But that mustang would still walk him. I still think it's hi-larious! If I hadn't wanted a sporty sedan, I probably would have taken a good look at the element. Goofy little japanese design...I love it!

I still don't know that the 8w7 is worth it, though...especially when you consider that it's still more than the eD BIG 8"...ask wake about that freakin monster!!!
