What have you done to your CX-9 today?

First oil change today. Just about to hit 25,000 miles, and I do it every 5k, so that makes remembering easy.

Used the OEM filters with the double stripe, because that's specifically what Mazda says to use, and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30.

I always rotate the tires at the same time (I mean, it's already off of the ground, so why not?) and found a screw dead center of one of the tires. We're going to need a set before the end of the year anyway, so I just plugged it myself.

Did an oil change yesterday. 132k kms

Still using Kirkland?
I noticed a dip in L/100km. I was getting between 7-7.5 on my mostly highway commute but now getting 10.5-- same speed, didn't really matter between the tires. I'm at 167K kms, last changed plugs (NGK) at about 120k. Still a bit early I think. This is with new oil as well but the Kirkland 5W30. Not running hot or burning coolant.
Changed the rear diff fluid the other day, was very clean. Will need to do the front diff. Changed the trans fluid previously at 120K.

I didn't change the wires for the plugs, not sure if that could be it. I usually run sea foam in the gas tank and engine 100kms or so before an engine oil change. Always change the oil filter as well, new engine air filter.
Still 10.5L/100km at the same 105-110kms/hr.

Thoughts?

10.5 is good. I average 11 to 13 l/100km but I am also running loaded or pulling a trailer either in city traffic or mountain passes

Changed ABS pump/module today. Now my MRCC retrofit is completed. Can do MRCC Stop & Go until 0 and going to autohold. Very nice.

maybe later will try to retrofit for Traffic Jam Assist/ straight to Comma 3x for autopilot

I take it you're happy with the results? How hard was it to remove? Any guides on here that was helpful?

A few other members posted on stuffing the stock sub with sound foam etc to create a more immersive punch-- have you tried?
So far it's just the rear speakers, and yes they sound far better than factory.

I used Crutchfield's install instructions, it couldn't be easier. It's pretty much a straight bolt-in affair.

The only "scary" part is having to cut the inner door panel speaker ring out. But a razor knife made quick work of it as it's pretty thin there. You'll see it when you get in there, and you really can't screw it up.

Yep still using Kirkland with 7500-8000 km OCIs. My fuel economy has been pretty consistent since switching from Pennzoil Ultra Platinum years ago. 10.5L/100km at that speed on the highway is what I'd expect from my car. I don't think I've ever seen it in the 7s, lowest was maybe 8.5-9 when I was really paying attention to trying to maximize FE on a road trip. I'm not sure what could explain the difference in FE, but I would maybe try a jug of your previous oil at your next oil change just to see if it makes a difference. Which oil were you using before?

Also curious as I've never used Seafoam in this car before - how did you use it in your car? On my old Accord, I disconnected the intake piping and sprayed it into the throttle body as someone held the RPMs steady at 2500 RPMs.

See attached during my morning commute to work, roughly 70kms all highway averaging up and down a few hills and maintaining speeds of 100-110kms/hr. This goes without saying but no drafting behind other cars or trucks etc, using the cruise control at times. This was consistently using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w30.

As for the Seafoam, I only used it in the gas tank and engine block just before an oil change.
I've sprayed into the throttle body as you mentioned on my other vehicles, but never tried it that way in the Mazda.

Anyways, the L/100 goes up if you get on it but I'm not sure why it's at the 10.5+ L/100 when I got much better results previously. I'm at about 167k kms now.

Wow, I didn't think that kind of mileage was possible with the CX-9. This is a pretty significant difference. You have me wanting to try Pennzoil for my next oil change lol.

Seafoam's instructions on their website don't say anything about adding to engine oil for GDI engines. Do you just add a full can to the engine oil 100-200kms before you do an oil change?

Hi, I'm new to the forum and looking forward to new mods or upgrades. Here is my 2022 CX-9 Carbon Edition with the summer set installed.

That's really good for a CX-9. I get the same mileage in my CX-5 with the same oil on the highway. 1100 ft elevation.

I have never had this good a mileage in my own 2018 CX-9, but 10.5 does seem a bit high if it is steady speed. However, because 7s is such a low number for this vehicle, any kind of additional traffic, slow down/ acceleration or idling would easily change the number from 7 to 9-10s.

A full can just before an oil change, most in the engine itself and some in the gas tank.

I just changed my oil with Pennzoil UP and the engine is noticeably quieter and smooth.
Mpg is a bit better but not like before.
I'm thinking it's combination plugs, tires and maybe carbon buildup for the additional mpg losses.

This is with no traffic, constant speed mostly highway. These pictures were taken from my Google account and spanned at least a year or so.
