Primarily, have fun! Don't worry about modifications. Make sure you have fresh to semi-fresh oil in the car (cheap insurance). Walk the course as many times as possible. If you can't recall the entire course, walk it again (time permitting). I find this is one of the most important tasks. After each run, look back and think about the run. Break it down and try and determine where you might be able to go faster. Also, try your best to look ahead. Don't focus on the gate that is directly in front of you. As a novice, try to focus on the following gate, and with practice, focus on the gate after that. This takes a bit of practice, but once mastered, can yeild beneficial results. Ask around to see if anyone is willing to ride with you to possibly give you pointers. Ask lots of questions, strike up conversations with folks at the event (I find complementing them on their car tends to work well, hehe). Analyze and retain the advice that is given to you and build upon it. Walk As already stated though, just have fun!!jonlong said:I plan on trying my first auto-x race on april 4th. My car (P5, 5spd manual) is bone stock so I'll be racing stock class. Do you guys have any tips or anything that would help me out? I'm really nervous/excited about this.(drive)
Threadjack: Very interesting and unique Improved Touring car you have there(thumb) , I think if I saw you on the track the shock alone would send me into a spin (shocked) .kcbhiw said:Primarily, have fun! Just remember that the car will only do one thing at a time. It will either Brake / Go or turn. Never any combination of the two on an auto cross course. Brake before your turn / carry the speed that you entered the turn through the turn and accelerate out. keep a consistant speed in the slaloms and allways look up course.jonlong said:I plan on trying my first auto-x race on april 4th.
