I've got some news. Looks like there is a team in a TV show called "Projet Tuning" here in Quebec who's gonna try to put a KL-ZE turbo in a '01 Protege sedan. I am very sceptic about their success, because I've been working on this project for a long time and I know now what is needed and not(like a complete KL-powered car!?) and they're not. They got 36 hours to do it(engine only) and 15 000$CAN for the WHOLE car! Yeah right! Hope they suceed, but from what I saw on the show, they don't look like they know what they're doing.

thats messed up, b/c i honestly don tthink it should be that difficult. jsut am atter of finding out what works with what.. it hink the main problem is that the 3rd gen isnt old enough yet for ppl ot know what works and what doesnt...just buy u a 1st gen and throw it in there over a weekend.. (lol2) save alot of itme (lol2)

totally agree with you. ppl seem so scared to do anything to the car swap wise and only trust in other memberws hearsay and never try. im positive it will work. if guys r swapping 4.6l ford, and 8.1 l (500 cu) caddy v8s is 1g MR2's then we can do anything.

ya a guy (bill strong of bill strong motorsports) built that 8.1 l 500 cu motor in a 1g mr2 and it makes 468whp with "light" mods lol and ungodly amounts of TQ. not very drivable but just crazy. would love to see a 1g pro with a custom TII rearend/driveshaft and a small block v8 swap. that would be an insane sleeper that would melt the tires in any gear haha.

I'm all about some sleeper action, and DEFINATELY about melting tires. I read an article abt some guy who owns an old Can-Am car from the era where there were virutally no rules for the series, and the car makes 1200 horsepower. Said it was the only car he's ever owned, or even known of that can be in top gear, floor it, and spin the tires lol. It was in a Car & Driver a few months back, don't remember exactly, just the description. Sorry, random, but COOL!

I agree with you, I'm pretty sure next spring there will be a lot more knowledge available about KLs in 3rd gens, but for now it's still experimental.

Just saw the last episode of the show and it still doesn't look good! after 12 hours(car has already been stripped, well some things has been remove!), they don't know where to put the turbo(they should have gone N/A). They have a KL-ZE curved neck, which means they have KL01 cams! No wiring has been done(the dash, carpet, etc. are still in the car) and I wonder what are their plans for the radiator hoses!? they have the transmission, but I don't know if they have the half-shaft?
Very disapointing...

(I'll probably get flammed for this, but (flame) )

If we're going with a V6, how 'bout the Yamaha built 3.2 liter from the '93-'95 Taurus SHO automatics. 220 hp, great on gas, reliable as you can get (200,000 miles easy), and just plain sweet to look at......
That was a great motor.

thats is pretty sad...lol The only probr they should have is findong out what kind of radiator they will use and how they will hook it all up. But eveyrtihgn else is like a puzzle, just need to find the right pieces.

what show is this? Is it a canadian program? someone tivo it!!!!!

The V6 actually doesn't weigh that much more than the I4, from what I gather.

The KL block is light enough that I was able to lift a fully assembled bottom end, carry it down a flight of stairs, and place it carefully in my garage. The K-series blocks are some of the lightest V6's ever made.

^that is true, BUT compared to a 4 cylinder, a long block KL is noo lightweight. We caught hell trying to load and unload the engine/tranny out of the truck...horrible.
