best i coudld do

i see it uses the mx3 axles like i thought theyfit into the 3rd gen spindles. Any word on what mounts were used? If its mx3 than it would be GREAT

the swap looks as easy as it is to put into a 1st gen....
They use the MX-3 half-shaft, but with Protege axles. You only need the V6 half-shaft, that's all.
Motor mounts are FS's, like I said previously, the fit right on!

still, redoing the harness is HELL!!

When spring arrives, they will be at least 3 KL-ZE powered Protege in Quebec! (thumb)

what exactly are u doign to the harness? B/c the KL harness doesnt go anywhere into the dash, it runs right to the ecu and to the motor.

use the 626 mtx obd2 harness and ecu, if i recall it does go into the dash.. and like dumspun said, its gonna be hell to find out what goes where, but all we need is one person to do it, then they relay the info, i am sure this is gonna turn into a common swap. . when everything starts to fall together with a few cars, i am sure one of the vendors will release a kit to put them in.. an ecu adapter would rock so u only have to unplug the ecu, plug in the adapter from the 626 ecu to the protege dash harness..

That's exactly the problem, the Protege engine and dash/gas pump harness are all tape together, where the KL is all separate.

If a ECU adapter is to be made, you still have to separate the engine harness from the others.
Here's a picture, where the arrow is pointing, this is the area for headache!

Dammm pulled the whoel wire harness out?

I hope that was the last resort cuz it does seem like a pain.

Soo on the protege, the engine harness coems up form the ECU, and spiders up thru the dash? Adn then to the engine bay? Are the wires just taped together? or made into each other and ran of the same dash wires?

lol, you can't imagine how much trouble I went trough just to get all the harnesses out of the car!!
I figured that I don't need 99% of all the connectors(it's a racecar afterall), so I took everything out! Somebody need connectors? lol
I'm gonna do my own simplistic custom harness! (thumb)
Here's the result:
auto001.jpg

I'm gonna try to get close-up of the harness, 'cause it's hard to explain. If you start from the ECU, you have a big chunk of wires, then it split in two and it's tightly taped. If you follow the wires towards the firewall into the engine bay, you see some wires splits from the harness and goes toward the fuel pump. The worst thing is it's all hold on the chassis by some "tie-wrap clips", I hate them...

I have connectors from a Kl ECU, I'm gonna try to make a rewiring How-to, but it won't be soon, it's very time consuming and I'm too busy... :p

Time and money will get you anywhere! lol

Good luck on the build.
You should start a new thread as a log.. and post any/all updates if you haven't already.

i think it would prolly be easier to make a custom harness, reuse the connectors and do one sensor at a time... that would be less of a headache than a million wires in one section and going what the hell does this go to?? ...

**** the V6!If I had the money,I'd drop a 13B-REW to my P5!!!(lol2) (burnout)

haha...i remember saying that at sevenstock...it would fit of course, just needed to be mounted differently unless u convert your p5 to rear wheel drive...is there such thing as a fwd rotary?

Hey, isn't an S2000 engine 2.0 litres making 220 to 240 hp?

Who said that you had to have a Ford/Mazda engine? :D

I guees if you didn't like torque. (boom07) Can you imagine what a bear a 2,700-2,800lb P5 would be to drive with that torqueless wonder in there? Hell, even mags that have driven the S2000 say that it really sucks in traffice becuase of it's TOTAL lack of low-end and lower mid-range power. Why do you think Honda upgraded the latest S2000 to make more torque (still not anything to write home about though)?

If we're going with a V6, how 'bout the Yamaha built 3.2 liter from the '93-'95 Taurus SHO automatics. 220 hp, great on gas, reliable as you can get (200,000 miles easy), and just plain sweet to look at......

YES! I always wanted to do this to my oldfOCUS! I miss my SHO...

i also have klze protege almost ready

wiring is the problem. the thing that i wanna know is if i would use the wiring harness from a mx6 or mx3 and just tap into the speedo and rpm from the protege?

I want to get a program from my computer to eliminate the egr and vris since i'm not gonna be using them. I also converted the motor to MAP instead of using the VAF. and i also didn't use the distributor. i'm gonna be using the DIS6 from MSD. it's mostly the speedo, rpm, acc, etc. basically anything that hooks up to the ecu.

I'm gonna do it, as soon as I....(maybe not in this order)

1. Come up with about $10,000
2. Build a garage
3. Talk the wife into it
4. Quit my job so I have time (hand)
5. Buy another car for the wife to drive
6. Figure out WTF I'm doing (shrug)

Random, but the S2k already weighs above 28000lbs! The stiff chassis comes at a price. That engine would probably be roughly impossible though, since it's set up to be longitudal in the Honda and I don't know of any other drivetrain parts to hook it up to.

Ditto for the SHO engine, though for a different reason... it's displacement isn't so big, but the engine itself is huuuge physically. People can fit a 6.0L LS2 in the Miata's engine bay, but the SHO's 3.0 or 3.2 is iffy. I think it was already said in this thread, though.

I could be wrong on both of these. :D

Well hell, lets go for the Nissan VQ engine. Nissan slaps it in almost every car they make, transverse (Altima, Maxima, Quest) or longitudinal (350z, G35, M35, FX35, Murano) so it can't be that bad :P

I'd volunteer since there's two cars with that engine in my driveway but I doubt my mom or sister would approve.

Damn you Nissan for making awesome engines. We could go for the QR25DE, the 2.5 4cyl from the Altima and the Sentra SE-R. That four cylinder has balls. Or of course the SR20DE, since that engine seems to be bulletproof.

I love to dream.

Hey I have a 2.5L Altima, but my mom would disown me if i took appart her new car.

Too bad the FWD SR20DE tranny sucks BALLS. 200whp and 2nd gear explodes.
