synthetic conversion

From what I have read, changing back to synth and back to oil MAY make some seals and gaskets leak on a older engine as synth is thinner and cleaner.

wrong, synthetic has cleaning agents that will unclog corners of your block of petroleum sludge that would then make oil leak from said corner

you can change to synthetic at any time, including with 0 miles on the engine

Corvettes, 911 turbos, vipers ALL come factory filled with Mobil 1 (I dont think those engines have bad results

and finally, if you switch back and forth you dont " need to completly drain all the oil from the engine" if that was the case their wouldn't be semi- synthetic - would there?

I use MOBIL 1 (5 w30) in both of my Proteges. The last time I paid $4.99 per quart (Wal-Mart).

I switched just like AGR#12345678910 did at 2K miles. I only have 4300 miles on her now, and no problems... in fact she thanks me daily for the switch.

The old school of thought was that synthetic actually lubricates too well, not allowing the rings to seat properly, etc. I would venture a guess however that Mercedes, Porsche and all the rest that come with sythetic from the factory know what they are doing...

However, on a car that did NOT come from the factory with synthetic I'd wait a bit until everything is worn in. I'll bet it's perfectly safe after you pass 1000 miles... probably less, but it never hurts to be on the conservative side.

all the big boy companies like porsche prolly break in the engines at the factory so theyre perfect...so the consumer cant screw up the process..cuz its very important

I like the way you guys "switch" to synthetic on the first oil change. Every new car comes with synthetic oil in them. The factory puts it in there to help with the break-in process. I've owned 4 new cars and every one of them had synthetic in it from the factory. Change your oil at 5K miles and use either a Mobile1 or Valvoline makes a 5W20 that I like to use. Either way, don't sweat the first oil change!

Uhmmm. no:bs:

unless you are buying high end BMW's corvettes or vipers, the oil that comes in a brand new engine is cheapo manufactorer's oil - dont you think if it came with synthetic they would advertise that fact???

And because of all the intial wear that occurs that is why you WOULD WANT TO USE DYNO OIL for the first few hundred miles so the wear in DOES occur - that is why the manual says to change the oil after the first 700 miles.......

You said the exact opposite of what is true - synthetic would not help with the break in process, it would prolong it!!!! LOL!!

once u go synthetic do not go back to normal oil,, its never to late for synthetic

once u go synthetic do not go back to normal oil - False

its never to late for synthetic - True and False - if you have a 100,000 engine that has not been taken care of going to synthetic would be a bad thing since you would loosen up all the gunk from the corner of the block which would cause it to leak like a mother...

In my Mustang I switched at 37,000 miles, no problems to date and I have had the car since 1996. Car runs strong with 300 HP on tap.

bought my gsx @ 78k....did 2 changes/6k with synthetic blend..then went full syn since then..now got 109k and not a single leak/prob
