Stuck in 4th gear?

why did u take the gears off.....you coulda just pulled the whole thing out at once

well that is backwards of what im doing anyways. i wish i had used it. im not worried though. im confident that between the website, a good camera, and the manual, i should be able to do it. thanks again, i know you guys are frustrated with my progress.....but im ok.( i say that nown!)

very carefully....lol. i didnt cut my hands, but busted my knuckles a few times. whats the bes thing to clean all the parts off with?

update.......

f@!# me.....i broke the damn plastic oil channel on the outer housing.......what is "official" name of that plastic pos? i knew not to touch it and i did anyways while trying to clean it up.

I know how to put those keys back in. If you need help PM me.

thanks bro, I will be putting it back together friday- sunday but if you have information on how to do it lmk. I also ordered the manual transmission shop manual that comes in friday as well

Ok.
First, there should be 3 of them. I only see 2 in the pic. Find the other one. there should also be 2 C-clips as well. Very thin, metal wire loops with a little straight piece on the end. What you have to do is assembly the outer gear with the inner gear, the slide the 3 keys in with the dent facing the inside. Slide the synchro in with the tapered end in. Then place one of the straight segments of one of the clips in a tiny hole near one of the keys.rotate it around until you find that tiny hole. Then you bend the clip in to the I'd of the gear. The clip wants to act like a clock spring and holds the keys in place. But watch, the clip needs to contact all 3 keys, if it only contacts 2 of the, you gotta flip it around. Once you get the first one in, flip the gear over and do the second one clip on the other side. You should see that the clips capture the keys by not letting them slide past the shoulder of the key.

If you need more clarification , let me know.

I have all the keys, I only had 2 in my hand. Im not sure about the clip that you are talking about, but I will check again tonight. Will the shop manual illustrate this procedure? This is the only thing that I am really worried about doing because everything else seems to fit together. My other question is how do I know if the outer gear( the sleeve on the outside of the synchros) is right-side-up? Thanks for the help. Ill take all that I can get at this point

I imagine the manual will illustrate this. But look around inside the pieces and inside the case for those C-clips. They are tiny, like as thin as wire.

As far as which way the outer sleeve goes, which gear-set are you worried about? 1-2 is the one closest to the bottom, 3-4 is the top set, and 5-reverse are the first ones you took off under the black cover. I need to know which gears to help. Let me know.

Judging by your pics, you are talking about 3-4. Check the outer ring, from some of my pics it looks like there is a chamfer on the edge that faces up. But no sense in worrying about that until you find those little clips.

it is 3-4.
yeah Im gonna look for the clips tonight. I would like to have the that synchro and sleeve back together so that i dont have to worry about it once the fork comes in and I can put it back together saturday. The clips must be in that ring because I have cleaned the whole tranny case out and took it completely apart so that it is easier to do this time around.

is there a recession in the outer sleeve that the clip might be hiding in? what are those clips called, in case I need to order them?

thanks a million

looked at the synchro and i see nothing that resembles what uare talking about. all i see is the brass synchro rings

ok.....well i just talked to mazda and they say there is a synchro key retainer clip and a hub shim. so idk what your talking about maxx, unless everone on here is confused.....including mazda
