Sound Proofing Anyone? . . . Bueller?

I am looking to purchase a new Speed 3. Anyway, I was at the dealer last night engaged in heavy foreplay, and I took a long test drive in the car. While I love the acceleration, there is a tremendous amount of road noise and muffler noise in the cabin.(eek2) Do these cars have any sound proofing at all?
No offense, but they are LOUD. I am sure they keep it down to save weight? but the MS3 is not a very light car. Anyone do any successful soundproofing of the rear hatch/exhaust area?

Thanks.

The MS3 is a million times quieter than any other car I've owned. But IMO if you're worried about road noise etc, you should buy a BMW or something.

Its a Mazda with 265hp for $23K. Its going to lack in some creature comforts.

+1

The exhaust noise is actually quite tasteful. It is in aspects, a performance car, and with performance comes compromise. Less weight (sound deadening) vs. better performance.

Never thought about sound proofing it. I never noticed much noise but maybe you could get a quieter muffler. I wouldn't want to add weight to the car myself.

compared to my '05 mazda3, I think the speed is quieter as far as wind noise and other outside noise. (the rumbling sound, I find pleasing)

I have the same complaint.

I have learned to live with it.

The exhaust gets slightly better after a few hundred miles, I guess the soot build up changes the tone or something.

The road noise however is unbearable on some surfaces.

I have read about some using soundproofing, but it looks like a pain in the ass.

Personally I think a tire change..... and even suspension change is in order.

I know I cant wait to get the tires off tis car, and the suspension too.

It's a coffin compared to my previous car (catless, 2.5" exhaust, set off car alarms just creeping in the parking garage).

Hells yah Kain. Compared with the Spec V this thing is quiet as a mouse.
The road noise can be handled with different tires. The exhaust noise is not going to be deadened much with sound proofing as you are mostly hearing noise form the muffler. I don't know what you were expecting to hear when you test drove it, but I test drove the Evo and STI before deciding to go with the MS3, and it is quieter than both of them.

I've kind of kicked around the idea of Lizard Skin. Seems easier than something like Dynamat. I wonder how well it works, though.
