RETROFIT HIDs for My Protege! :o

Sweet man! It's really not a bad price to do it yourself. My only concern is how it is mounted to the headlight. I've heard of some peoples vibrating too much from the road. How did you make the projector meet the headlight? Thanks! Also, did you buy your projectors on ebay? I see some going for 80-100 bucks!

Yeah thanks, well, it's the price for going OEM-like. I used a combination of nuts, bolts and washers to mount/meet the projector.

im thinking about doing this to my brothers stock headlights he has laying in the garage, but i have a p5 do u guys think it would still work with p5 headlights and what would ineed to change compared to urs??
i would really like some HID's that look like urs

Yes it will. I measured the fx projector after some cutting and it should fit the p5 lights. And if you use an e55 projector like i did, no doubt it will.

Any inherent problems you ran into that would help speed the progress?

get everything within arms reach. like your paint, your screw nuts and bolts your hole saw drill bits . just to make the job easier. ohh and dont forget the headlights in the oven. i did 250-300 oven temp and left it for 5 -7 mins. preheat is the key and if it dont pry easy put it in for about another minute. just be patient.

save yourself time and money . time to get everything you need so no unnecessary trip to the store and money for the gas. lol

hey abraham!. im sad to inform you, i had to sell my tsx / retrofitted headlights to acquire my clutch/flywheel setup combo . my clutch is slippin bad.

to those who might be interested on seeing what mine looked like. heres the link ..http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58041&page=2

and i also offer my service to whom might be interested in these. fee will be discussed. depending on how much work needs to be put into it. not all retro will take same amount of time. that depends on projector you have gone with.

ohh bill. your car is everywhere. you mazdaholic /slash *****. lol j/k

what ballast are you using oem or aftermarket ?

and abraham - you running the hella ballast. i came across a dude with a 1990's jetta. and did a retro and when i got to the stop light i rolled my windows and asked him what type of ballast he was running . he states the hella. and they were freaking bright. i loved it. !! i was wondering where you got it. ? but i think he didnt have a cutoff shield of any type. so it was just everywhere. but then thats a no no. but with a cutoff shield i think it would be still bright. it jess didnt have the shield so that was a (chair)

Hm, i found them from ebay, but you can find fs threads at hidplanet or theretrosource. I don't think an aftermarket is brighter or OEM. It should practically be the same, since both are 35w. Unless his was ballast is higher like 50w.

I'm pretty sure you thought the jetta was so bright because the glare was everywhere :S. So when the cops see you and then see the jetta, he's gonna stop that jetta and ask him to put his lows, and when he tells the cops, "oh those are my lows" and then the cop says "oh really, are those hids...?" etc etc etc..

Hid projector put the light to the ground, where you need it.

I have a HID kit on my p5...but a full projector mod is ******* sick. Looks hella good too guys. It's on the list of things to do. And also...what's on you hood up top by the wipers?? Some type of cowl or something?

yea those look good ;) i tryed to make my own headlights like that but had lots of problems with founds lately ....I have a question about those retro headlights>>> how did you got them balanced and can you control the beam hight ? are those street legal ? and how about passing the national car test with those ???

Thanks :-). It's like a wiper guard piece, i painted it black with the rest of the hood.

Djmarelis, you can soft mount them and then balance/align them with a leveled flat surface.

I think red's projectors are hella 90mm units. Probably have an ECE cutoff. and similar to other hella projectors. They are know to have good ouput. They used to be used for racing applications.

nicely done!! i have mine done too!! they are pretty much finished but i think ima take them back apart and do carbon fiber or possibly a custom paint job!!
