Our furnace shut off for the 3rd time this week. I suspected it was the thermocouple, a sensor that monitors the pilot light. It was only shutting off at night when we allowed the temp to drop to 64 in the house.
I pulled out the thermocouple and tested it with a multimeter. It only produced 14mv when I held a lighter to the tip. It is supposed to produce 30mv. Ace Hardware across the street had a replacement one for $8.00. It took all of 15 minutes to repair. I hope this solves the problem!!!
