My Speeds Back!

My car's back. I thought I would let you guys know what was actaully wrong with it. Here is what they printed on the work order:

Found 2 coolant leaks. 1st leak was at coolant housing block at water pump. Found housing bolt broken at bolt head. Removed coolant block. Drilled out bolt and retapped threads. Replaced bolt. 2nd leak was coolant hose located at cylinder head coolant housing that supplies coolant to turbo. Hose had a hole in it. Replaced hose. Note: spent time with Mazda N.A.. Tim Barns and Allan Johnson. Explained all problems. Had to send faulty hose to Tim Barns.

The car runs great now. Now steaming. The mechanic who worked on my car is a master tech and a great guy to deal with. He helped us turn our rotors for free last year at our Miata shadetree mechanic party at the dealership. He loves this car and wants to figure out ways to up the horsepower on it without voiding the warranty. He has an itch to pop open the valve cover and investigate a bit. He also told me that my car is broken in and that I can drive normally. I am going to take it a little easy but I may investigate the limits a bit this weekend. The handling is unreal for a sedan. I am blown away.

I purchased a front mask for my car for a Protege 5. I am going to see if I can make it work. Trussville Mazda said that if it didn't fit and it was clean that I could return it.

I drove this car last night to a local convenient store where I know a bunch of car guys usually hang. As soon as I got out of the car some guys says "hey did this car come this color?" I told him yes and it was one of 600 made. He went on and on how much he loved the color. If any of you are wavering on this color......do it. It is truely outstanding and I haven't even seen it in the sunshine yet.

The P5 bra should fit however you will have the marker light hole on the side of the bra. I have a company making me one custom for my MSP, set me back about $130, but it will be made for the car. Drop me a line if you want info. I'll give you the number and name of the sales rep.

I bought the mask for $89 + shipping and I get a $30 rebate for being in the Miata club. So I couldn't pass it up. I am going to take the mask to a local upholstery shop and have them patch the holes.

It has been overcast hear everyday that I have had my Speed. I am getting pretty depressed. It is supposed to be sunny here tomorrow.

MSP front mask

Street Toyz, is this the company that was purchasing the front mask for the P5 and closing up the holes? I heard that somewhere. If you buy a mask for a P5 might take it to an apholstery shop (one that does Jeep and boat tops maybe) and see what they charge to do the same thing. $130 sounds real reasonable to me though. I can't decide if I want one for my MSP.
:)

This was the bra manufacturer, Colgan Custom, the originator of the car bra. At the point of manufacturing they simply will not cut the hole out therefore avoiding an ugly patch. I dont know about you, but I dont want to have a modified P5 bra on my MSP. This is as close as we are going to get. Because of the limited edition, they almost guaranteed me that they would not runn off these bra, they will simply do them one off as they are ordered. Look them up on the web under the name i gave you they will pop up quickly.

Bra

Here, Here! No patches if it's not necessary. I definitely will get custom since it is available, if I get a mask.

Street Toyz,

I would seriously consider going with the aftermarket bra but I have my doubts about them. I used an non-OEM bra in the past and it was disasterous. It flapped and beat up my car. I will take the "ugly" patches over aftermarket anyday. That is just my $.02. Let me know how it works. I am curious.

Good luck,

Jonny

Not for nothing, but do you really think Mazda manufactures their own bras ? I asked this manufacturer that question, he advised that Mazda sublets the work to another company, unfortunately not the one im dealing with , but they guaranteed a fit better than any other bra including the one from the dealer .. my $ .02 ..lol

u sent it back to chicago tech center? if allan worked on your car i'm sure you will have zero problems afterwards. allan knows his stuff.

as for problems with the MSP. a friend works parts at a local chicago dealer. the first black one they got. they were testdriving for PDA. when it got back it was smoking everywhere. an oil leak had burst and they had to replace it. friend was also mentioning the over all quality of this vehicle because all the accessories that pretty much make it the MSP over a regular protoge is pretty much assembled at the port. mentioned something like it took 12 hrs to tranform a regular pro into a MSP.
