DIY Mazda Firmware Update Information

Not a stupid question! Yes, these instructions are just for the firmware update. If you want the OEM Android Auto or Apple CarPlay from Mazda, you need to do this firmware update, and also install a "retrofit kit" that includes an updated USB hub and wiring. The kit itself can be purchased online. The dealer charges that much because they supply the parts and also charge labour at their shop rate to perform the firmware update and install the kit.
Much obliged. I get why it's so expensive at the dealer, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't just a firmware update they were charging $800 dollars for.

FYI if you're around the 613/416 Scarboro mazda has it for sale for $650 dollars, installed!
