MP5 vs. CRX

ok bro! I feel u on this one... I own a 03 protege 5 since may and up to now the only thing i put on the damn car is the lowering springs y? well i dont want to spend hella bank on the turbo ($4g's) that's only gonna be running 14.9 at a 1/4 mile.

stock p5 is runniing atleast 16.7-17.00 quarter mile. ( so they said but it dont feel like it feels more like 20 sec.)

stock crx si is atleast 16.2 1/4 mile w/ a/c and full interior. plus there's alot of aftermarket parts out there for cheap.

but then if u want to be different from the others try something new for cheap i.e. my 323 mazda hatchback that i got for $850 w/ $350 w/ this car and body u'll be running mid 15's to high 15's all day. thats if u want to be different...and just keep ur p5 for weekend or long drivin' use. like mine.....

a mp5 compared to a crx... with what u can fit into a crx ( h22 )
, plus a turbo, ur never going to be faster then a crx.

killa- seems like you answered your question with your first post. Your mind seems set on a honda, hell your already riding on honda wheels, though they do look good. Also sounds like your regretting owning it. Is your p5 paid off? If so you could build a nice CRX with a sale of your p5. But if you want do be different why would you even think of owning a honda?

gsxr750 will smoke a crx with a h22 swap..
and it will be cheaper and more reliable.. this whole thread is comapring s*** that has nothing in common.. so.. that is my comparrison.. help i bought a 14000 p5 and i just got smoked by a mclarin f1.. quick i need an exhaust and some stickers. -=\
like i said.. u want to go fast.. lose 2 wheels
u want to go real fast.. lose 2 wheels and add nitrous
u want to go really really fast.. loose 2 wheels.. find something that says 1000 on it and get nos. -=P
all can be had cheaper that acrx with h22 swap.

**** it im just gonna keep it and do all show on it and start winning some damn trophies

all the buzz words and street slang being thrown around this thread makes me want to shoot myself. How black are you with your hardcore DELL flossin in Virginia.

I leave it to LinuxRacer to come in here and slap your mouth, because I don't have the right too. :D

you are comparing apple with orange

a crx with a b18c swap would ownz alot of mazda in the street.
you could beat a crx with your p5 but it would cost you alot more, bolt on would get you no where, I am talking about stripped out p5 with a built internal and blower.

not to be a dick or anything but you just gonna realize you are giving up something in exchange for soemthing else.

<--another honda pile

NSX motor in a CRX?

gotta realize NSX is MR and crx is Fwd

can it be done? of course, signal got a nsx motor in a fwd hatch too.

would i do it if i have the money? no, because i could get a b18c5 or h22a4 and mod the living hell out of it and it would be still cheaper to buy a nsx motor from acura.

not to mention, the parts are 1000x times more and cheaper.

just some opinion from working with honda for number of years

gsxr750 will kill everything u listed and only cost 2 grand.. but then again.. that is comparing apples to oranges.. bTw.. i love your honda tech rap song i heard. -=\

more than type"wah"

:D

and please dont dont dont start with me on ghetto racing.. you can runs 12's with 1997 dollar

i'm a former crx owner (owned 3) and those cars are the most surprising little thing you can drive...the lightest one i've raced was a 1700 lb (w/o driver) 88 hf (didn't have door mount seat belts or door impact beam) with b16a...it was literally a full size go kart...handling on the pr5 is good but a crx has phenomenal reponses due to its 4 wheel ind suspension (2g crxs) and featherweight...even with 7 lbs of boost on this car i can just keep up with 115 hp ita crxs (i have an advantage on the straights) but have a significant disadvantage in corners and braking zones

real life racing experince...got to ride passenger at road america in a b20vtec crx (pretty well modified car) with a professional driver...modified it was running ~200whp n/a...we were out with other instructors of similar experience and were annoying a stock z06 vette (yet it was track prepped)...straights he was significantly faster but every time we had to brake and/or turn we got closer and closer until we could get in the carousel where we'd dive underneath him (outbraking maneuver on the inside) and wind up pulling some distance through the remaining corners until the long straight where he'd pass us and have to take the inside line in the corner to prevent us from passing under braking in turn 1...we did this for 10 laps and it was the most amazing and led me to an epiphany on how compitent a crx is when properly tuned and driven

CRX

I am a Honda guy all the way, but I love my MP5.

As far as the CRX being a peice of crap, I have a few friends that have crxs. One is a drag/show car, and the other is a full out drag car.

Now, as far as the crx looking like a piece of s*&@. Thats your personnal opinion. I've heard people say that about my mp5. Thats ok. You can make a crx look really good, good enough to win car shows and even nab best of show. Now, keep in mind I'm in the Midwest, so this is HIN or nothing like that but we have some big car shows here.

As far as making the crx fast, you can do it without using an H22. First off, very expensive motor, and costly to build or repair.
It has and LS/VTEC built to handle upto 30psi. Keep in mind this car is still street legal and it doesn't have a/c, but again it is built for drag/show. The best time I saw it run was a 10.22 on slicks at 14lbs of boost.

THe other crx I never saw run but it had an n/a setup with and ls/vtec, and the car was gutted, plexigals windows, and fiberglas front end. Its built to be a 10 sec drag car. Its all a matter of personal taste.

As far as honda motors, the h22 is a good motor, just depends on what you want to do. Personally I had a Del sol w/ a b16 stock. I then got a Jspec b16, blew that one up, so I built a LS/VTEC, and then I blew that up, so I built a CRVTEc, B20, and this is in a del sol, kepp ths in mind cause the del sol is heavy. My SOl was all motor setup for both drag and raod course racing. My B20 dynoed at 220 to the wheels, good for a 13.3 1/4 mile. Not stupendous numbers but goood for an all motor sol.

As far as building motors for hondas, you can get allot of power out of a 1.5/ 1.6 single cam. You just gotta built it bullet proof and build it right. You gotta match the parts, not just slap stuff on and hope for the best. You can build the 1.5 with a turbo and put it in a crx and have a 11sec street car, and be a sleeper if you want. I have seen it done. SO, my opinion, the H22 is not the best motor for making a honda fast. Just depends on what you want to do.

As far as making the MP5 fast, you can, just takes time and money. Also takes time for the aftermarket to catch up. Though the fact that they only made the car for 2 years doesnt help, but theres enough stuff out there to make your car fast. Just depends on how fast you want to be.

Personally, next year I am going to rebuild the motor and turbo it.
The Hiboost turbo looks like a great setup and the power you get from it is very good.

I bought mine the first month it came out. Mistake due to how much they where then but both myself and my girlfriend really wanted it, so we didnt care. Best car I have ever had and I have had quiet a few, even if it does feel slow. Still love the car cause its solid and has allot of potential and I love the way they look when hooked up.
