I was investigating an oil leak on a 2018 CX‑9 Signature today and noticed something that caught my attention. Right above the front axle area there’s a small silver piece that looks like a sensor or a nut, sitting above a black cylindrical housing (CV joint house?). From the location and what I’ve read online, I’m wondering if this might be the oil pressure sensor.
A couple of things I’m hoping to confirm:
Is this indeed the oil pressure sensor on these engines?
Is it a common source of oil leaks for the CX‑9?
How big of a job is it to replace?
For context, I do have access to a shop with a lift, plenty of tools and I’m mechanically inclined, but I’m not a mechanic by trade or hobby. If it turns out to be the sensor, I’d really appreciate if someone could walk me through the best way to access it what needs to be removed, and if there are any tricks to make the job easier.
