Mazda/Ford

I know Mazda and Ford work in conjunction. I dont know if its a merger like the Mitsubishi/Chrysler was and Chrysler/Mercedes is now. I was just wondering how much of the MSP's are turbo? I think i saw somewhere that the ECU was from Ford, but what else?

have no worries. 97% of the proteges are japanese in origin. the remaining 3% is small bits and pieces like the ECU and i believe the seat belts among others.

how much of the MSP's are ford? i'm not surem but working on a galant, I noticed that it had alot of the same parts like my same year protege.

I'm definitely no expert so I'll let someone else chime in. All I know is, it doesn't seem like Mazda pulls from the corporate part bin as much as some of the others (like jaguar and obviously mercury)... If you're a mazda fan, that's clearly a good thing. To my knowledge, the 3, RX-8 and CX-7 are built in japan while the 6 and tribute are built here. While the tribute is obviously just a rebadged escape, the 6 doesn't seem to have the same level of overall quality you find on the others. Or maybe that's just my imagination. Again, I'm mainly talkin out of my ass...

One thing's for sure though, ALL MSPs (aside from the ones that blew up) are turbos. Someone told me the ECU was co-engineered by Callaway and Mazda... but I'm not positive. Considering how bad it is, I wouldnt' be surpised if Ford got in on the action.

This is a huge relief to me. When i showed my friend what i was gonna buy he said "have fun working on a Ford" So i just wanted to make sure. I have never been a Ford guy at all. I just always thought their stuff sucked and was unreliable. In fact, I have never been into domestics much at all, and if i have its been Chrysler/Dodge. The trucks im into is Dodge Cummins. Never cared for Powerstroke like so many other people, atleast until they drive a Cummins.

I believe at one point, prior to 1999 the protege's underpinnings were shared with the ford escort. Don't quote me on this though. On the sale sticker of the msp I believe it says 97% of the car is assembled in Japan. The other parts coming from callaway and probably from ford. The MS6 is also made in Japan whereas the regular 6 is made here in the good ol' USA.

Well I do remember seeing a very small ford symbol on my unichip when I was installing it. I dont know much about this subject so I will leave it at that. Sorry.

Ford= mazda mazda=ford

all the same company, what was that mazda pick-up the b1300 or whatever that is a ranger.. same damn machine.

Ford owns a controlling share in Mazda. I believe the 1st and 2nd gen pros shared parts with the Escort, like the MX-6/Probe. The 6s has a Ford v6 too.

i dotn remember but arnt the 6/fusion/adn a certain volvo sharing the same motor and soem drivtrane parts.

the 1st gen protege and the ford escort (yes i love my ford escort) are the same platform, and share alot with the 323/mx3

i think ford has like 1/3 ownership of mazda. and alot of theeir parts and mixed together
my scort is mixed with protege/mx3 parts along with its own parts.

i think the atenna on the early mp3, and some other protege are the same as my ford escort/ and the australian laser. lol did they went witht he window antennas i think.

isnt the 2.3 a ford motor, or a mazda motor. but its being used in many diffrent cars.

and dont forget land rover owned by ford.

and dosent ford have somethig to do with the diesels that dodge run. i have heard that form a few places. ut ford has some doing with that.

the mzr engines are mazda made and put into ford vehicles. The focus hasnt stepped up to the mazda3 platform here like they did elsewhere, however still uses the new mazda motors. the 2.0/2.3 MZR motors are in the focus, 3,6,miata and possibly a few others. Escort GT uses mazda bp motor. LX uses pure ford motor. contour is all ford. Basically Ford uses the same parts in their vehicles to save on cost. Mazda uses some of Fords stuff because I dont think they really wanted to design a SUV or truck of their own since it would cost so much and they would have such a small share of the market so they redid ford trucks/suvs to at least have a presence in the market. now they got serious with the cx-7/9.

Our MSPs have more Mitsubishi parts than Ford parts, at least from what I've seen...

Ford Owns 51% of Mazda shares I believe therfore they control the ownership from what I understand, but all in all the MSP is Japanese based with a few odds and ends. I'm pretty sure anything wearing the "Mazdaspeed" Logo is from overseas.

Ford also owns Jaguar which is up for sale because Ford Sales are down like 25% from last year. Saw it on CNN the other day. Personally I don't like Ford either, never have because most of the people I know who have them have
1. Claimed Lemon
2. Hated the repair Costs because Ford doesn't have Generic parts and you have to go through Ford Directly. Let alone Repairs shouldn't be a regular thing when buying a car. Sorry i'm Ranting. :)

I dont know a lot about Fords. I know they are use the hard way of doing stuff. When i went to automotive school we worked with either GM or Ford. Ford was always harder. Except for the STUPIDEST idea ever in GM's Fuel Injection for the vortec engines. Another reason i dont like them is because people with Mustangs always think they are so great, and they are EVERYWHERE!! Thats y i wanted one of these cars, the rarity.

If Ford brought the Euro Focus over here, I would consider driving/owning another Ford.

nothing wrong with ford. every car maker has some lemons. If they sell a ton of fords odds are there will be more lemons than a vehicle that did not sell as many units. whats hard and expensive to repair on them? sounds like your dealer just likes raping your wallet and you let him cause you do not know any better.ya know you dont have to buy parts from a dealer right? you know I find ford parts for a fraction of the cost of import cars, ive owned 3. and mustangs are sick, thats why people like them. I dont know too many cars you can just slap a 200HP wet shot of nitrous on and get away with it. Ive seen 12.9 on almost stock everything, not bad for a cheap fox body and you can actually beat the s*** out of them all day long and they last. my buddy has a 89 GT with a Cobra R motor and light pressure blower, its stupid fast on street tires, full interior nice dech kit, cobra wheels etc and he hasnt even spent half of what a stock msp costs so F the stang haters lol

Ford owns controlling interest in Mazda. In other words, all Mazda decisions must be approved by Ford. There are plenty of other threads on this topic.

All MSPs have parts from various US and foreign manufacturers. Sparco, Calloway, Racing Beat, Enkei, etc.

The Protege part of the car was built in Japan. The Mazdaspeed parts were installed in the US.
