Mazdaspeed Protege Build - Feels Good To Be Back

I promise, the search bar and I are very close friends at this point haha
there is a ton of information but not a lot of back and forth between the MSP and the protege as far as wiring and such. (Not that I could find at least)

If that service manual is the same for the msp, then that's the one that I've been using up until now
Oh well shoot, you're already on it.

My guess it's the same. I'm sure you'll catch the read flags (if there's any) when you start wirring the ssafc based on the ecu pins/wires marked in the installation instructions.

True. I guess I just don’t want to have to do it twice.
Since it’s the same for the FS engine, that should probably cover the MSP.

Do you have any power goals for your MSP?
That's fair. Might just have to take the gamble.

For sure, 250-275 nice clean build 👌 That seems to be the safe zone before the transmission starts acting up. But per my list on the first page I should be able to handle more.

Not planning on pushing it. Plus I'm already almost pushing 400hp in my MS3 so I'm set lol

An MS3 at 400hp? Yeah, that’s the dream haha

I’ll be ecstatic if I can hit 250 in my protege without blowing up the trans.

Snagged a decent find, I'll still need to clean them up a bit.
Best set I've seen floating around.

I think I'm just going to replace all the carpet in the MSP as well. Just renew everything.

Also seriously considering painting the car myself. I just got itch and I need to SCRATCH it.

Got a few more things in the mail today. Pretty pumped about the GTSpec Trailing arms. This is gotta be the rarest part I got. They look great for the age.

Steering column gauge holder. Maybe somebody can chime in on here. But the seller claims Mazda made these at one time? "OE/OEM part numbers FS2V-10-220 and FS2V10220, manufactured in Japan by Mazda." Don't know how much truth there is to this but I couldn't find a single thing on the web showing that they made them at one point and time.

I forget the username but some on here used to custom make those. Modifying the oem trim piece of course.

Oooh, man I had one on the MP3 but pretty sure I just got it from a local guy.

Geez, I had a feeling. Mazda ain't making no gauge pods lol.
Found it! Dudes username is ForceFed.

Sick, even better. Classic

FS2V-10-220 is a valve cover... seller is either lying or just dumb... mazda never made any gauge pods for the protege, and if they did, it would've been better quality plastic and a full kit that included a gauge

you're going to lose the passive 4WS function with any "better" trailing arms.. if you hage the passive 4WS, go for it, otherwise stock works great

I was waiting for you haha. Yeah I didn't think so. I knew he was full of it. That's all that came up when I ran the part#. I wanted it and it was cheap so I scooped it with the hunch that mazda didn't make it.

Damn, well that's unfortunate 😕 I hate to take something away from the car. Still jazzed about them though.

I can always swap them if it turns out to not be my taste.

Damn, I tried ordering some OEM parts. Got an email yesterday stating these parts are discontinued. We will have to cancel your order😔

Awesome. That made it there really fast. Enjoy it!

BTW! I bought the WRX specific injector seal kit off of rockauto on January 23, 2018. STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS, Part # SK97. Make sure they still look and feel good enough to be installed! I forgot to check.

Right!

Oh okay, I'll check them out tomorrow. I didn't get chance to take a close look.

Edit: They look pretty good and feel pretty great. I may or may not replace them just because of age. I feel I'm being over the top with that.

So really what's next on the list is a 505 zoom intake manifold and oil pump solution.

I've looked everywhere for deep info on the the Boundary Oil pump ( shims, coating, and setup in general) not a lot of info.

I would say the same for Doc-B. Nobody really stunting the setup in pictures. Also a lot of the links are gone unfortunately.

I was going to message Sam and hope he could explain the Boundary pump but I feel like I might be bothering him now lol...probably will still message

can't believe it's been about 10 years already, but when i was working on building mine, a guy that went by Signature Sound was making those bypassed oil pumps. they're basically a clone of the doc b's. i want to say i've seen doc b on the facebook groups still offering the service on some random posts in recent years. no idea on the boundary oil pumps. when i find the time, i can doodle how my oil lines are set up.
