Lsd Failure Thread

Did you guys notice anything before the LSD actually broke? I've been sensing some differences in the way the car drives recently and was actually thinking it was the LSD. What I'm noticing:

-transmission shudder at low rpm from launch, regardless of severity
-tires breaking loose much easier while turning
-poor alignment
-whine from car while at low speeds in gear.

I just passed 11k miles.

like I said before, we wanted a cheap car so we've got it!!
I just hope nothing breaks until I get rid of this car. Eventhough I have warranty, I know they will say it was abuse for whatever it breaks. I know people have gone to the dealership with stock cars and got warranty denied because of "abuse". So what's considered abuse? so you can't drive a "sports" car fast? Give me a break! Next time I'll buy a minivan!!

I don't know about dearlships voiding warrenties on stock car, cause of abuse, but its just the dealer being a cock. I'm lucky my dealership works on my car without asking too many questions. And for the LSD problem I blame FORD for everything that go wrongs now, uncluding the ECU crap. It said on the discription the car is like 98% Japanese and 2% U.S.

Seems like that 2% must be big in our parts

lol damn i think ill save for the quiafe lsd after reading this. i would hate to spend over a thousand including labor only for it to break and then try to argue that it wasnt my fault.

No s*** right. That whole thing with Razor and 1st verse the WHOLE DAMN BOARD started becuase we insisted that the MSP was a known problematic car.

This situation is dealer to dealer at best. I had an MP3 and P5 and every mazda service department in Newhampshire I visited (4) SUCKED hardcore. Thus far my subaru service department has been great. No BS and they have even done a few things that I didn't even ask them too.

How many of you are boosted beyond the factory specs? Also how would this handle non FI applications. Do you think it was the power or the design of the unit that caused the failure

Speaking of not being punished for driving your sports car ... like a sports car. My friend has a brand new Ford F150 Offroad Edition. He took the truck offroad last week and played around some in the field ... but nothing major. The day after the truck was driving funny and doing a lot of pulling hard to the right ... turns out the real axel got bent some how. Ford denies his warrenty because he took his truck offroad. Its funny since the truck is the Offroad Edition.

You know what, thats pathetic. There are plenty of people here that DON'T have any problems and don't want word spread out that every ******* MSP has the same things go wrong with it. I drag race EVERY weekend, AutoX 2x a month, drive around on bad roads and have NEVER has half the problems you guys b**** about.

You mofos talk about stereotyping people, maybe you should stop stereotyping your own damn car. The problems you've had are probably from your own neglect or not knowing how to properly drive a car.

I think Mazda SHOULD buy back the car from you, because you DON'T ******* DESERVE IT.

A car being promblematic does not mean that all are bad or will become so. It also doesn't mean that all of the owners of the car will even know some of the problems exist. However, to insist others are silent to aviod spreading bad vies when there cars are experienceing legitament issue, is asinine.

The reality is if one persons car has the issue then so will anothers. Everyone has a right to know what they may be in for with this car. An information black out on the MSP reliability issues is hardly what a site like this is about. The ill will and bad feelings toward the car are deserved and if mazda wished to aviod them they should have spend alot more time R&Ding this car or simply not have built it at all.


Mazda built a car with a laudry list of known issues. This is not Craigs fault or anyone else's that bought the car. If I had bought an MSP and had even half the problems some of these guys have had, I would have drove it back to the dealer and straight through the display room glass!

I am at stock boost, they can blow me for saying abuse my car. They are false advertising the car that it can be driven spirited in the brochure. So if you enjoy your car you lose your warranty. :bs: I have copies of the 03 and 03.5 brochures. More evidence they are promoting this car to be driven not grannied. Class action anyone?

Oh yea by keeping silent you arent benefitting yourself or anyone. When you let the issues out you start the process for them to recall or issue service bulletins. Remember the hesistation thread? Without everyone documenting the problem like we did, we would never have had a new flash.

good for you if you don't have problems! I can't wait till you do and you come crying to us that have them asking for suggestions. this is a communtiy and a place where people can come to find out what is wrong their car. i damn well deserve my car. so go screw off.

I thought I would never have my radio break. 1 year later my radio face flips out like everyone elses did. Same with this lsd, clunk, coolant leak, etc. Lets remember mentioning these problems only helps you in the future. Why deny the fact this car has problems? So Mazda can stiff you in the end saying your case in an isolated one and tell you to **** off b/c you abused your car? If there are multiple cases it just shows the part is known for failing. You are thinking like Mazda saying people abuse their car and that's why it breaks. Look at Ingrexo he had a stock car and it failed at 9000 miles? The 3 people who spoken out about their LSD have had low mileage. You gonna tell us all of us rag the s*** out of our cars when you go out and race every weekend? You are the one that should worry about the warranty b/c if they can prove you race your car you are abusing your car and goodbye warranty. The goal of this forum is to help other MSP owners out with issues. Our car is a limited production so we need all the feedback we can get so Mazda will get off their ass and fix it. In the end, this just benefits you the MSP owner. Be a part of the solution.

i blew my rear diffs out on my Bimmer once while doing a smokey burnout contest. just heard a loud clunk. car was still driveable for a minute, drove it around to the parking spot and just heard the diff spin and beat around while my car did nothing.
