K&N vs oem drop in

I took some pics of the oem and K&N filter. There is a huge differance in thickness between the 2. Would the oem actually flow as well or better because of the greater surface area? It will certainly keep your engine cleaner.

I don't know about the difference between them keeping the engine cleaner, but looking at them, I can tell you that flow-wise, the K&N probably beats the OEM. It's like the difference between a pillow and a bedsheet over your mouth - which one do you think you'll be able to breath better through?

both will trap large engine damaging particles. your oil will probably just get dirtier with the K&N, so make sure not to skimp on oil changes

not that this makes a difference, cause its a differnt car. but on my baseline dyno i gained +3 WHP on my MSP with the K&N vs. our stock filter. So i would say it flows better.

if I didnt have a full intake system, I dont see any reason in dirtying my oil. the fact that one has a greater surface area than another is also pretty insignificant as long as you have the stock airbox. k&n filtration efficiency is about 96% vs the stock 99% but then again the K&N flows better, just weigh the pros and cons for yourself and good luck with your decision.

That filtration quote is way off. K&N is well known for their poor filtration.
This is how you get better throttle response and some HP. It has been test against stock and other aftermarket filters a bunch of times and K&N always provides the most flow and offers the worste filtration. But keep in mind that the very very small particles that do get buy will not harm your engine, they most likely burn up. So there really is no cons to it. And the K&N filter will filter better when it gets alittle dirty.
