Intake FAQ

Hey guys i was wondering.... I am buying a injen CAI and it has no air straightener...
Would this cause problems......

any picts of the infamous "air straightener"? Pricing and where to buy to correct an older intake?

AEM install instructions attached. Part number is 9-21070. Same as my MSCAI, but I bought gen 2 design with straightener included.

Install is the same for both, but AEM's pix were the most clear.

I was wondering, is the Injen the same size( Dia.) as the AEM? I am just guessing, but i think the problem was more the maf sensor sensitivity than tubing design. But if the id of the intake is larger than stock, that would change the readings enough. Was the stock intake to Mazdaspeed CAI reflashed? I had mine dealer installed before delivery.

i recently made my own with a short piece of 2.5 intake tubing and a cone filter installed with maf in the tube Cut hole welded in a adapter plate and installed on car ) short time after po2187 system to lean at idle poped on ok no biggey i thought maybe leak after maf or intake moving to much so tightend clamps and mounting bracket and it came back . let car sit for 4 days got back in and drove 20 miles or so and had po300 random mutiple misfires it annoyed me so i took it off what intake is known to not throw codes now i did notice the stck box has a air diffuser in the maf piping could this be the issue

Sorry to interrupt everyone but can anyone tell me if I can install a FMIC with my MSCAI? Just wondering because it seems like COBB and another manufacturers are only offering the FMIC with a SRI. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Hello newbster and welcome.
I do not have the fmic, just a bit of an upgrade on the top mount.
But having the mscai and looking at the pipe routing, i think you have good question. You might want to start a thread asking if anyone has that combination. There might be a "how to" that shows an under hood view that might help.
Sounds like a nice pair of upgrades

I don't think the COBB FMIC or TurboXS FMIC will work with CAI's... both of their designs stuff the hot and cold pipes down into the driver's side fender area, whereas the PG and CX racing type designs run the hot pip diagonally across the engine and then down into the passenger side fender area. CAI's I'd imagine would be okay with the design that only brings the cold pipe up into the driver's side. Just my thoughts, don't take my word for it.

TurboXS has its own CAI that is shaped to work with its FMIC. I have no personal familiarity with it and don't know if TurboXS's FMIC might work with the AEM/MSCAI. Maybe just contact TurboXS and ask? I also agree with the suggestion above to start a separate thread and ask, if it has not shown up when you do/did a search.
