Gas milage question

I was wondering how good other msp users gas milage is? Mine is around 23 to 25 highway which I would hope it would be higher on the highway. How is everyone elses mileage and how do u drive your car (ie. Highway, city. Rpm shift ranges) anything you can think of that helps out. Also are there any produces (ie, cleaner air filter, tune up)... higher gas mileage

23-25 is low for the highway - ive been tracking my mileage ever since i got my MSP (well 165 miles after), i average about 24 and thats about 75% city driving by mileage, shifting at about 3500. a good highway tank for me is about 28@75, 33@60, my single worst tank was 16.something, but that was all city and i think i was driving it hard on some twisty backroads. average city tank is about 21.

i also seem to get worse mileage in the cold, which i think is related to my EGR, and i have a cracked EM which i doubt is doing me any favors. plus the 10.0 AFR in boost... im expecting once i get around to my mani, EGR, and joep FPR ill be getting better and more consistent mileage.

that sounds like my car, "don't worry about AFR just dump fuel!"

I get 23-25 at 75.. lammmmmmme lol
How do I clean my maf sensor?
And on the ssafc, I want to run my car kinda lean in lower rpms, how would I do that

That's very low so I'd suspect a few more issues or conditions. Spark plugs, air filter, pcv, tire pressure or 10 psi + and high speed driving perhaps.

My best highway mpg was 32 @ 70 mph. Normally I don't drive that slow but I get a consistent 28 mpgs on the highway.

PVC is located sticking out of the back top of the valve cover, you should swap that out for a Millenia S one from the dealer or PG, Don't get a replacement from the parts store they are crap.

no - the reason the millenia one is good is its the same engine but the PCV was specifically designed for use with a supercharger, so it seals better than a N/A one... the 626 and protege (even MSP) use one that wasnt designed for boost so FSDET engines with the OEM PCV have a tendency to get oil blowby in their intake pipes. fix: get a PCV designed to have repeated boost/vacuum cycles - the millenia

or just go to your dealership and pay them ~20 bucks, or go to ken at protege garage and have him order one (18 shipped - not for the impatient though). or get in touch with... uh... mygrind69, i think he has one for 15 shipped. junkyard is the last place id go for something this inexpensive.

by the way i dont think the PCV is your culprit, but it is far and away the single best thing you can do for your turbo dollar for dollar

I didn't realize these were so inexpensive. Do dealerships have theses pcvs readily available, being that they are older model?

neither of the ones near me did. and dont think for a second that a $2 purolator valve is an acceptable substitute... theyre just as bad as the OEM protege valve if not worse

Other than opinions not based in fact or just blind loyalty, there is nothing wrong with a Purolator PV1047 pcv. I know because that is what I have been using ever since ditching the oem part and switching to the purolator. I'd rather spend 3 bucks on a part that I am going ditch frequently versus a much more expensive dealer part or an even more expensive Mazdaspeed part.
