Terbow--I sent his logs to Nick and we do not get an invalid port error? I get a box that it is trying to communicate to the MPI, when it should not. I have NO other ports being used in the 1 to 4 range and no conflicts. When Nick tried to view it, it played nothing so it's kinda wierd. I'll go in again and move things around, but I know it won't work because for some reason it is trying to communicate with the MPI during playback mode when it should not.

yea the invalid port thing isnt on the mpi software, well it is but its windows. so it wont travel within the datalog (for example if wicked sends me a log, i can prolly view it with no problem cause i dont get the error). if its trying to communicate with the mpi tell it to be offline before it enters the map screen. even offline mine loads the default map which i think is ok since its always done that. i think the communication with the mpi during playback is the reason when you get the invalid com port it wont work. i dont know why it would do that but it does for some reason. so when it sees the invalid port its like its not communicating with the mpi even though its not hooked up. does that make sense? it does to me but its hard to explain. so the workaround is finding an open port and then it "communicates" with the mpi even though its not really there. thats y he can probably play a log if hes hooked up to the mpi.

wicked or tim, send me one of wickeds logs and ill see if i can view it.

tony, lookin forward to hookin up with you when i get back! i think a few tweaks here and there and i can get this thing runnin real well...i've adjusted my sw point several times and it still dumps fuel before i hit boost...anyway, i'm confident we can get this cleared up...i just need someone who knows the software and can show me what i've been doing wrong. thanks to tim for getting me going and getting the car driveable!!

definately!

I will be rewriting those instructions on the CD. Look for it soon. If someone can add pictures to it, that would be great. we will be workin on that tuning vid liek apoc said.

we'll just use the pictures from BT or make new ones they may have better lighting and more clarity...

We can use my car if needed since it is down at the moment going under the knife to become Franken'Spicy

...Ok, we didn't get to record the install, but we are going to set down in a classroom setting and break down the install and every single option, setting and screen in the MPI software. We will be explaining in extreme detail what every thing does and how to use it. We will also break it down to lamens terms, so everyone can understanding the MPI and tuning a car in general...

That would be awesome. The software can be a little overwhelming if you have never done this before.

Apoc---damn man what where you thinking.....16psi on the stock block with that setup and no retune? You would of needed a lot more fuel and a lot less timing to be safe, but I guess you learned the hard way. Get that motor done and get up in the 300whp+ range.

The sooner you guy's work on the instructions the better. This will help a lot of people out with tuning, since you have the fresh perspective down there. I tend to not get as detailed all the time as I should because I think people already know certain things. This will be kickass!!

Here's a MSP map for people to use. It's free and is similar to the one people pay for. No one gave me the map intentionally, I compiled it from a map I could not read in my SW. There's way's to get anything you want in the SW. So now there should be no reason to PAY for a BS map like this. The timing is s***, it doesn't take timing out where it should and the analog is a 2 minute job, FAR from being worth money.

Another thing to note with this map, it will not work the same with different TM version's. You should tweak it for your application ALWAYS. If it doesn't idle at 2.08v Analog Out, then move the fuel cal until you get it there, then you should be okay to tune. You may also need to raise or lower the switch, depending on you car.

Here is also a screen shot of the timing map I use on P5's. It is real conservative, but you can see where our cars need timing taken out at. This map was based off my MP3 with a J&S knock monitor. I just added a couple degree's of timing in since the MP3 has more timing then a P5. It is still a lot of timing out, but with this timing map, the MAM kit at 5psi has made 180whp, so it's not that bad. You can adjust it if you want, but just note that this is where the timing needs to be removed. This map all started off of Little Bevis's map he posted long before I had the J&S. I tweakied it a little, but it is still based off his, because it was pretty dead on already. The tweaking I did was to remove a little more timing to be on the safe side.

I was testing the J&S capabilities and seeing how much the engine could handle since I had the new engine. I had everything setup to test, but I just wasn't intending to test right then, but then I hit boost and my inner me just ******* took over and it was like ******* crack and I couldn't stop!!!

it was like my mind said "you got the new built engine ready to go in! whatcha waiting for? go ahead punch it and let's see what this baby can do"

and then I just lost it and went for it...

I still can't control my excitement over how well the J&S worked and the turbo upgrade MPNick did IS SO ******* BADASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excitment is a b**** sometimes. The J&S can only do 20 degree's of retard and you may of needed more because you didn't add fuel. Just because you have timing safety, doesn't mean you don't need to worry about the fuel. Oh well, like you said, you have another motor screaming your name so git er done!!! IT makes me want to get his turbo setup and ditch this big turbo, but I'm too cheap. The fast spool would be kickass though!!

Maybe when you get the new motor in, you can do a timing map for the MSPer's so they know where the timing needs to come out. It shouldn't be all that different then the one above, but a specific MSP map would be great....better then that POS timing map that's sold!!!!

no problem I will post my maps after they meet your specifications. I really need to have you on ym cell phone while I tune to ensure I'm following the proper methods. I feel that I am, but if your available to walk me through it it will make things easier.

I want to make absolutly sure that our instructions are a 100% accurate before posting and have went through testing from a my group of newbies to tuning. In order to make sure we have met the needs of our target audiance.

So once your feel up to talking and have the time to assist via cell phone let me know.

I have to tune the following ASAP

1. Ti-99
2. Moeed
3. JBreed
4. my very own Franken'Spicy to the new test engine.

So when do you want to. I think this weekend will work if you want to.

new install instructions. Needs pics and some wire color codes. Also needs a little blurb about how to solder.

These are not any different then the ones I have, just arranged different. Here are the ones I made, with and without pics. You can use the color codes and pics off them to finish yours if you'd like. Good job though(thumb) These instructions are for ALL TM setup's.

Install with pics: www.micahmicahmicah.net/home/starrie

edit: If you have a blue wire coming out of your TM, then hook that with the red wire and connect those to the fuel pump wire. The real old TM's had a blue and red wire, they are both power and need to be hooked up to the same fuel pump wire.

yea i reordered those instructions. They are not bad, just not ordered in a way that made a lot of sense to me. I will add pics and stuff from the other one.

Basically my goal is to make an idiot proof wiring instruction guide. :)

Yeah that's great, the more variations the better. You are a fresh set of installation eyes, so any feedback you have it much better then anyone who's already done it before. Now lets get to some tuning, since that's where people need the help the most. I told apoc that I'm available this weekend, so if you're the test case then lets get to work!!!(thumb)

My tuning is coming along pretty good. Dyno time was pretty much a waste of my money. I had to make a bunch of changes just to make the car driveable. The only issue I have is my wideband shows something way different that what the mpi software shows for my a/f's. I'm going off the wideband, it feels really strong right now. I just need to do a little fine tuning now and i'll be extatic.

Yeah, IMO, dyno tuning should only be used for peak HP. Sorry you didn't get what you expected, but road tuning does allow more versitility. So how's the drivability now? Do you have the switch point trimed out the way it needs to be?

I ended up just turning the turbo module off. The reason it was bucking up top for me was my upper fuel cal. I had to lower it down from 4.98 a little. Once I did that it was fine. I don't have the turbo module on, and stll am in the upper 10's for my a/f's. Still need to lean it out just a tad. But driveablility is pretty good now, just little fine tuning in the lower rpms. Also can you explain to me what the turbo module actually does?

This thread is still here for info and more info will come. If you don't have any real questions or info to provide, then stay out and there will be no need for me to keep saying the same thing.
