corksports s-pipe

You guys are creating a lot of confusion for yourselves on these parts.

Quick/basic info: PLEASE READ
Down-pipe: (turbo car specific part) Bolts from turbo to main cat (or to mid-pipe). Generally replaces a pre-cat (does not remove either cat on the Protege)
Mid-pipe: Bolts between down-pipe (or pre-cat) to main exhaust system. Usually removes the main cat. (a normal design mid-pipe on the Protege would eliminate both cats)
Cat-back: Bolts to main cat (or mid-pipe) and replaces all the pipe to the back of the car.

The Cork Sport Exhaust System bolts directly to the down-pipe. It is not a catback.

(Edit-) The Apex downpipe is not an actual down-pipe. That would be more considered a mid-pipe that replaces part of the down-pipe. It does half the function of a down-pipe and the full function of a mid-pipe. With this piece, I have not seen a way that will allow you to replace the upper portion of the factory down-pipe (S-Pipe).

The Power Series Downpipe replaces the factory cast pieces, it does not remove any cats.

The Power Series Downpipe is a two piece pipe. The pieces will not be sold separately from it.

If you get the one with no cats then yes it does take both of them out. If you get the catted one you will only have 1 cat. It replaces the "J" pipe and the mid pipe and bolts up to the cat-back.

I was just hoping that I would be able to buy just the power series "S" pipe and not the "J" pipe since I already have the Apex DP.

Yes...the Apex "DP" replaces 1,2,3,4,5. Where as the Corksport Exhaust replaces 5,6,7.

Vibrant Exhaust or Apex DP and Cat back exhausts replace 1,2,3,4,5,6,7.

Thus...all owners of non Corksport exhaust don't need the 1,2,3,4 section, just the part before that.

Hope this makes some sense.

Dang, you beat me to posting that diagram... I just coulndn't find it. :)

Thank you for the added information. I recently purchased the domain www.protegespeed.net to put this and a lot of other info in a more public type place.

well at least w/ the 2 piece design allows for flexibility for current exhaust owners. if it were 1 piece then it would only work for corksport and perrin owners which start after the J.

I keep that on hand, as this has come up a few times now :).

Can you explain why Corksports DP will not work with the Apex or Vibrant exhaust?

Do the 2 parts of CS's DP seperate at a different point than the stock DP?

If not, then they should work..?

Well put. Many people refer to the 2 parts of the downpipe as the s-pipe and the j-pipe. It's not hard to tell them apart, pretty obvious (j-pipe is number 1 in picture). In order for the s-pipe portion of corksport's downpipe to work with Apex, Vibrant, etc. it has to have the right flange on the bottom (same as stock), and that flange will have positioned in the exact same spot as the bottom flange on the stock s-pipe. If this is the case, Corksport will sell alot more of them for sure. I'll buy one, even though I won't be using the j-pipe portion.

I'm just curious as to the price on this sucker... i mean MAM is coming out for one as well, this should be good, can't wait to see CS's.... looks good on the website...Nice!!

not what I was asking...I know that much.

I just want to know if the top part of the CS DP will mate like dirtysouth_msp said.

the vibrant exhaust includes the j-pipe. the corksport exhaust does not. that's why.
