article about HID and ho Pro5 has the farthest low beams!!

hmm, there has to be a better way, led maybe?? seems to be the way things are going for every other light related product. what if you were to install projectors in the fogs of the p5 and aim them slightly down? im just trying to think of ideas cuz hid does not work efficiently (you know what i mean by this, they work but they blind everyone) and will not last due to the danger they cause. we only need to light up the road not the air in front of the car, why not put the lights down low???

The one thing I don't understand is how everyone says their stock headlights are so great. Then why on the mazda 3 are hid's an option??? I have a hid kit on my p5 and would never remove it. I love it and have only been flashed once while going over a hill. They are properly aimed and are not blinding to anyone. What's the problem??? (uhm) (uhm) (uhm)
You can get HID`S on a 3 ......Ohh (yes) wait only the SP model.

go to some store in the mall that sells led flashlights, turn it on, and look into it

LEDs are the way to go, but only on like.. cars in the future. Not to be retrofitted into "old school" headlights.

ahahah ya i know the flashlights at the mall are bright but nothing like a headlight, you would need a fleet of these little basterds to get any real output. damn i wish this could be retrofitted

This article is the reason why having those Halogen Projectors made (will never happen) was so stupid. I repeatedly said that in the thread. The intent of projectors is to give you better lighting but the Protege already have such great lighting that putting the halogen projectors in would be useless. But xenon projectors are an entirely a different story. I have HID in my car, the light is bright and a nice colour but the distribution sucks.

We should just have Indiglo Roads lol!!! No need for lights on cars haha just messing. HID's look cool and are a nice piece of equipment for the driver, but not for the ones on the receiving end. Especially not me because i suffer from night blindness as it is.(when you dont see as clear as you do at night because of a lack of low light receptors in your eye)

I do like the look of HIDs. But why does it matter if its more efficient? so your car burns a couple more ounces of gas when you run halogens, who cares? I dont think it should be the standard....it would add another $500 to the price of any car you buy and it isnt functionally better. The stock Pro5 headlights are better than any HIDs according to the article.

Your car will require no more fuel if you use halogens. HIDs are efficient in the sense that you don't need heavy gauge wiring and other provisions to carry ungodly amounts of current to them, as you would for high-output halogens, yet they are extremely bright. You get something like 300% more light than a comparible halogen bulb while requiring only 35W to it.

i have night blindness as well, and yea HIDs do blow at night (especially with contacts in) but i would be a hypocrite if i talked any smack about them because im ordering a kit next week. halogen bulbs just dont light up the road enough for me, and im tired of spending $20-$40 on higher temperature bulbs every 4 months.

My halogens rock. Pseudo-high-temp crappy lumen output wannabe HID rice bulbs FTL.

The logical side of my brain tells me to go back to halogens and just upgrade the wiring harness and bulbs like you did Josh.. but the vain side of my brain loves my HIDs so much :'(

damn I wish the Protege5 headlights didn't have such a bad cutoff. I played around with an eyelid seeing how low it would have to go to actually force a cutoff.. and um, the eyelid would have to cover most of the headlight, definitely down past the halfway point looking at the front.

Read the article below taken straight from Consumer Reports website. It says that Mazda Protege 5 has the farthest

The farthest so far: the inexpensive, halogen-equipped Mazda Proteg5. Its low beams illuminated our 600-foot marker without creating a glare problem.

(2thumbs) I <3 my p5...

The technology for HID's continues to evolve. I see car's with HID's on the road at night all the time and I can't say they blind me at all. Now trucks with regular halogens...... that's another story. Also HID performance depends on many things. Build quality. Projector quailty/type. Cut-off. Leveling. HID's done right should have no problems on the road.
