So I've been looking for the solid quality 4 channel that will push around 100 watts RMS to my fronts (MB Quart) and rears (Infinity for rear fill) and here's what I have come up with....all rated at 4 ohms:

1) Eclipse PA5422 - 85x4
2) Rockford Power 851x - 110x4
3) Avionixx AXT 800.4 - 125x4
4) MTX 684 - 85x4
5) JBL PX300.4 - 75x4
6) HiFonics Zeus 6400 - 4x85
7) PG Octane 8.0:4 - 125x4

I've left the JL 300/4 off the list b/c I know many of you might recommend it anyway. Budget wise the Avionixx or the PG seem to be the most power/dollar. SQ wise, I'm leaning towards the Eclipse or JBL. In the middle, the Rockford and the HiFonics look to be good bets.

Would you recommend a smaller, but cleaner and clearer signal (ie. Eclipse) over a more powerfull signal (ie. Avionxx or Rockford) for my curret set up? These are all within my price range right now so please refrain from the old "it's just money" routine and tell me to go buy a Zapco for a grand!!!

Also, does anyone know if the Eclipse 32440 is the older model of the PA5422 ?

Thanks in advance (cheers2)

I'm sure I would Edz...I've heard nothing but good things about last years models and this years I've heard are crap. The PPI's are just out of my price rance (I was also looking at the PCX-480) and they are also too damn long to fit under the P5 seats....I've got about 20x20" to work with. I guess I'm leaning towards the Eclipse at this point.

Anyone else?

my opinion is a watts a watt. prefer to have a good amount of power and keeping the gains down for a low noise floor. that will give u a clean signal. gives you the ability to upgrade something else down the line. as for wich one i think all of them would work, find the one that has the features that best match your system. then find the one that will match your setup the best as far as installation goes, then find the one most powerful then the one that is the cheapest. break it down that many times and youlle be down to one amp i'm sure.

Not to bash PPI but here's my take...I have a PPI 5440 (5-channel), their budget line from two or three years ago. It is the most configurable amp I have ever seen and it sounds great...except...The sub channel stopped working recently (its in my g/f's car now). Since I based the install around the dimensions of the amp I figured I would try ebay for a new one. What do I find? Someone else selling their PPI 5440 with the front left channel that doesn't work. I'll leave you to make your own conclusions but I won't be buying that particlar amp again. I know their PC line is much better but they can be pricey.

Anyway, I'm considering the MTX Thunder895 as a replacement amp.

Looks like it's going to be the Avionxx at this point. I've done some research and it seems like it's the best fit for my setup and it's in my price range.

Would anyone like to share their experiences with Avionixx amps..specifically the 800.4??

hmm, well I've got tsunami's and both I've sent in once now, and I'm actualyl sending my 1100 back in again now. Seems to be fairly common. good amp, good price, but not exactly the most stable. Good news is their warranty turnaround is fast.

I have had very good luck with the older JBL Power-Series and even older JBL GT-Series Amps. Very clean signal, excellent S/N ration, low THD. The newer JBL Amps don't seem to be as clean...
I would check out the JL Audio and Eclipse Amps also...

Well, I just picked up the Rockford 851x for $270, new, and full 1 yr warranty...couldn't pass it up. I guess I'll try it out for a while and see how she does. Thanks for the advice (eekdance)

Decent choice although I'd go for the newer Rockford stuff.
Atleast you didn't get the Avionixx (pow)

Yea I looked at the new Power line and they are freakin huge. I guess it's like my old man used to always say - what ever you can afford.
