37.17 mpg

I was gettin about 350 miles to a tank, drivin to florida although I never let it drop below the 1/4 tank hash mark

Well, I just filled up my tank a couple days ago...So I am clocking it now. I'm using the 14.8 gallons someone mentioned earlier, to what mark on the gas gauge? the empty line? Or would that be 14.5? I have an 02 ES. Would ram air be better for me since I have a RC hood...?

you should divide your miles travelled by however much gas you manage to get in when you refill it

Yeh, I know. I was just checking the size of our gas tank to which tic marks. Since you dont always run dry, then refill.

it's more like low 13s to the empty line, you'd have to drive below E to get to 14+ gallons

Are you guys using regular fuel and getting 35mpg+? How are your shifting and clutch habbits? Idk, maybe I'm shifting wrong lol??

why wouldn't you use regular? It gives no performance increase, and actually hurts performance. The ignition timing is going to be off with higher octanes b/c the ECU is not tuned to properly utilize it.

i use regular gas and usually pass plus through once a month.......
i get around 30+ when driving on the highway with either gas averaging between 75-80 MPH. hell, if you go slower 65-70 it jumps up i am sure quite a bit.

Good to know that fairly modified P5s can still get decent mileage. If all my driving trips weren't 5-10 minutes I'm sure I'd get better mileage. I got 28.5 on my last tank of 91 octane (MP3 ECU needs it), with all of those being city miles.

MP3 ECU, long reach spark plugs, UDP, FS-ZE intake cam, header, midpipe, catback, 215 width tires and CAI yet still decent gas mileage FTW!

yeah - slowing down to 65 saves alot. this is a neat little trick i learnt. with my jeep, i would get it up to speed and keep my foot on the pedal just enough to keep it at the speed...and it saved alot. i tried this with my pfive, its a bit harder to do, but i have noticed a difference in MPG.

don't the p5's all have cruise control?

yeah - i dont use it because the computer will in many cases put more pressure then your foot will to keep speed.

I don't see how...you need the same amount of throttle to maintina 65mph on a flat road w/ no wind computer or no. If it put more pressure, you'd speed up. And the computer's more consistant than a foot (doesn't get tired, fall asleep, etc). I know for a fact that I get better mileage w/ cruise control than without. And I'm more comfortable at the same time.

i live around many hills...so cruise control sucks. for others it may be different.

Last weekend we drove down the I15 to San Diego and back at a steady 70mph. Well, except for a half hour crawl near the 91 intersection due to a stalled truck and the resultant traffic jam. When we got into the hills and the cruise control was on it would frequently downshift abruptly to third when going up a hill. So I turned off the cruise control, maintained the same speed with the accelerator, and only experienced one such downshift for the rest of the trip. So there does appear to be some difference in the way the cruise control tries to maintain speed and the way a driver does it, and that results in those annoying downshifts.

Oh yeah, it worked out to 29mpg for the trip, 2003 P5 automatic with 4 people on board. Subtracting out the crawl and the city driving in San Diego (stop and go up and down hills) that would be around 31mpg highway. That's a lot better than the 21-22 mpg it delivers in pure city driving.

yes - the computer will downshift very quickly...my ford focused did the same thing. perhaps because the 4 cylinder engines dont have the power to keep the speed on the same gear.
