#1289 - A story of rebirth

The Lucas is a stabilizer, I think the Rotella is just right. It does not have the friction modifiers that a car oil ment to help the vehicle meet emmision standards. I buy it at Wal-Mart saves 3-7 bucks over auto parts store's.

Interesting intercooler.. tube and bar? Ah well. Put your grill insert back on!

What?? lol Tube and bar? I have no idea what that is supposed to mean.

Grill insert isn't going back on. It looks ugly.. too plastic-y for me.. anyone need one? lol

I did a little research.. this one isn't tubular.. its just got two different depth fins.. from the side its shaped like this (kind of) / \__/ \__/ \

With my luck, this one sucks I bet.. lol

IDK I bought the CxRacing one..

I guess "tube and fin" in the description tells me that it is. lol.

GD it. This is the first IC I have bought. I never even knew to look for "tube and fin" or "bar and plate"

It figures.. I guess I will run this one until its destroyed by road debris and then get a decent one. Man that is a bummer.

maybe its just the angle but it looks like you have bar style AND tube style lol. i think the angle is weird and its just a tube style with a sloped leading edge. doesnt really matter. gonna be a lot better than stock i can tell you for sure.

edit; for sure thats what it is. tube/fin isnt as bad as people say it is.. really.. it sjust not as efficient as bar/plate. you would prob never ever notice.. but the money you saved you prob would notice =)

I guess its better than stock, but its still gonna piss me off, knowing this.. From what I just read, I should expect road debris to destroy this sooner rather than later.. is that why you guys said to put the plastic back in?

ack. i shouldn't have said anything. the thing is so much bigger and in such a better spot its gonng be so much better than what you got. and it was cheap. no reason to feel bad at all. mine is puny compared to it lol. my cxracing has some bent fins from rocks ect, but it has held up just fine since 2009. sprayed it off and its going on the p5. ill be getting one of their liquid kits for the msp. #repeatbusiness

I've not seen one of those in re life before.. how do they mount? They are just water tanks or is water feeding through?

p.s. I decided I am cutting those top tabs, and I will paint those three vertical pieces black. That will be my "grill". I think the color difference will set them off in front of the aluminum..

instead of mounting a big ass intercooler on the front of the car and running big pipes/cutting the car to fit said pipes, you put a big ass water radiator up front, a smaller heat exchanger and short length of pipe in the engine bay where it fits, and use water to move the heat instead of relying soley on air. at the end of the day you are still using air to cool the water, but radiators are much more efficient and cooling water than intercoolers are at cooling air. a really bit water to air intercooler system could possibly cool charge air to ambient or just above with a very high flow rate of water. or you could run an icebox as some racers do ect.

its more complex in that it requires an active means of moving the heat "a pump for the water" but it gets rid of the very long piping mess of most intercooling systems. its very common on mid-engine cars. less on these kinds of cars, i just want it to keep a clean install.

the system i want to build uses a 31x8x3.5 radiator in place of the intercooler and the actual heat exchanger fits where the stock airbox would go. just two short aluminum pipes connect that to the turbo/throttlebody. bov would be flanged directly to one of the heat exchanger tanks. very small and clean.

you should put the grill back in... the car just looks incomplete without it and it doesnt restrict very much air at all.

I ran air to water on my KL swap and loved it, the only drawback was the pump was noisy, but I'm sure there are quiet pumps out there.

In shocked you could hear a 12v pump over kl engine tick lol...

I can't even find Royal Purple locally, thats how I ended up with Mobile 1 5w30. I saw the Rotella in there though.

10-4.. Anyone using lucas.. since Rotella is not synthetic?

Nothing wrong with Mobil 1 IMO, been using it for years in all my family's cars without issue. Oil is oil is oil IMO, you either get synthetic or regular. Can anyone honestly say they can tell what kind of oil is in an engine by driving it?

And if you are removing the bottom grill cut the bars, they look like ass. Personally I think having the FMIC showing and the grille cut out looks awesome. Your IC is fine for the car there is no reason to upgrade to a more expensive one you will never notice the difference.

I know that was rhetorical.. but no. I have never noticed. lol

I am gonna try painting them black first.. But I agree - I think having a FMIC and having it WIDE OPEN to see is kind of how its meant to be. IDK. Some people like the whole "factory" finish.. Thats just not me. The TRICK is making sure it doesn't get all Mexican looking.. It needs to still have some class.. but I don't think exposed FMIC's are tacky at all.. I think its something thats meant to be seen. Otherwise, how will the honda's know to be jealous? (gossip)

Imho the trick is to make any upgrade look like it should be there. Honda's stick their fmic out in the open fart fart look what I got I'm fast.

I'm just glad you went extra mile + to fit your fmic right. Looks good 👍

Thanks man! To be perfectly honest the drivers side needs to be readjusted about 1cm back. On both the top and bottom bolts. I will adjust it as perfect as I can get it when I do the rest of the pipes.

I'm not sure how long it is gonna be though. Definitely not this weekend. I bought a knock off HKS ssqv.. it was supposed to at least LOOK like an HKS.. lol The one they sent me is WAY cheaper than the one I was supposed to get.. so that may need to be returned.. and if that happens, I will have paypal credits, so I will just throw another 40 or 50 and get a real one, if thats what it comes down to.
