#1289 - A story of rebirth

fuel cut usually happens when its cold out and your waste gate actuator is starting to fail. mine was when it spiked 12 psi in the dead of winter... awesome sauce pull but then it hits a brick wall as the fuel is shut off to prevent death. nothing to do with the pump or any of that. i actually dont know if its fuel or ignition, but its just like turning the car off while your driving in gear.

you should plan to get an ssafc or one of popes unichips to handle it. with the other stuff you have done pretty much all at once, you could call the car done til you forge.

i will say this.. usually fuel cut happens after s*** grinning good times.. really gives you a feel for the potential of the car with only a little modification ;)

The cars ECU is set to soft cut the fule at 8psi of boost. So like Valk said you will need a counter measure like a ssafc or unichip

Ahhh.. okay. that makes sense.

I did the gauge glass and cluster bulbs last night.. Took like 10 minutes.. so far the EASIEST thing I've done. How refreshing... lmao

Sometimes I wonder where you get your information...

Fuel cut happens when the MAF sensor maxes out at 5V, it is not pressure based.

And yes it is actually cutting ignition and not fuel.

Oh.. well.. thats not the same thing at all then is it? lol

Hornsfan.. so is the solution (piggieback engine management) the same? Has anyone converted MAF to MAP? Or upgraded the MAF? .. or is any of that even a viable possibility? (excuse my ignorance)

Yes a piggyback will help prevent fuel cut. Standalone EMS use a MAP sensor instead of the MAF setup but you cannot delete the MAF with a piggyback.

The unichip maps are automatically set to clamp the MAF voltage to 2.5V under load to completely eliminate fuel cut, I assume the split second does the same.

Thanks for all the info guys.. It sounds like a situation where I would probably wait until I go forged to do standalone.. I just can't see myself doing mad amounts of standalone tuning on a stock bottom end. Maybe I will start taking a look at the unichip or split second..

My new shifter arrived today. I don't get off work for another 30 min though.. so no pics, and its not done.. but it will take all of maybe 30 seconds, so its not a big deal I guess.. but it also kind of is to me, because my hand is on that thing basically all the time.. and the stock one is starting to bug me. Its TOO short IMO.

EDIT: OH YEAH.. I forgot.. i went to a different autozone and they had my wheel stud. SCORE!

Don't go standalone. Stick to a piggyback split second has been tried and true for a long time and I think the unichip will prove itself very quickly. Either of the two piggyback options will take you well beyond what the rest of the drivetrain can handle.

I think unichip is gonna take away a lot of split second customers if its as good as you claim pope. electronic boost control obviously a perk, but i think the split second only allows control during positive pressure. it was easy to install and worked pretty well but to get timing and datalogging for tuning, its more expensive than the unichip your selling even after adding the boost controller and cables ha.

So I got this new shifter installed. It changes the height about three inches. I love it. Its perfect for how I expect a shifter to be.. It gives you more leverage.. I feel like I have more control over it. I know some people like the short shifter, but I am able to run through gears so much easier now.. The only problem is the shift boot. It wants to sit at stock height, and now I have shaft showing. (LMAO)

I have some fabricating to do. I might be able to make a spacer or something. My boot is old. I might get a new one. There is an upholstery place across the street from my work.. I was thinking about having them reupholster the steering wheel, and stock shifter (and make a matching shift boot). I bet it would be pricey though. I may just replace the steering wheel with an aftermarket. It is grossing me out.

It was an expensive drive to work today. Dump truck threw a golf ball sized hunk of gravel at me

Safelite is coming to my work Wed to replace it. $215 I could have spent on the Mishimoto radiator. Needless to say, I am less than thrilled.

That sucks bro. In Florida by state law, your insurance supposed to cover that.

<--- ONLY LIABILITY.. SAVING OVER $200/month

Edit: I may have exaggerated slightly. lol. I had a $25,000 claim back in 2006 on my old VR6 Jetta.. So I have been dodging full coverage for a while now. lol

The Tercel cost me $36/month. To add liability for the Mazdaspeed AND keep the Tercel legal, its $44/month. So +$8.00

To full coverage the MSP, even only being worth like $3000, would cost $156.00 a month.. total it came out to about $175/month.

You could make an argument for either side of the coin if its worth the gamble.. Basically its a push so far... I am not expecting to lose a windshield every other month though...

Maybe once this thing is built, it will be worth full coverage. IDK.

sheesh. thats about what i paid in cdn for my first year of driving on my p5 with full full coverage lol. i dont bother with collision or comp though. just extended liability. the parts on the car are worth a lot more than the car as a whole. protect yourself from being sued cause americans seem to REALLY like doing that.. the car itself.. its like a pair of pants.. disposable income.

So stoked.. I just ordered the Mishimoto rad and got it for $229.00. (shipping included) I've searched everywhere. Thats as cheap as your gonna get. Like. Ever. lmao

http://www.tunersports.com/mishimoto-performance-radiator-mmrad-pro-03_p4744.html

they list it for $255 (like everyone else) but they have a promo right now..

I guess I am headed to the junk yard for regular protege radiator stays.. although its SOOOO much easier to pay a few bucks. (Its 45 minutes away, hot as balls outside, and never open when I am off work)

Anyone got some laying around?
