The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

not having any luck with the fitting. went to a hardware store also and they didn't have what I needed. Gonna try to work on something else so I can atleast feel somewhat productive.

I saw your thread James and sorry to hear that you've changed your mind on the car and understand your decision....that said those OZ's are tempting but lack of funds and a 35 sidewall won't allow me to. Great job on the re-paint!

Congrats Fiji on the house!!!

I'm just sitting around watching some March Madness and waiting for the girls to get home from the grocery store.

The core is a perfect fit, did not have to cut any of the bumper supports, fabricated new fittings radiator and the dual slimline fans and relocated the power steering lines. All of the piping is 2.5".

Just got our taxes done.....looks like I have a little more to spend on a p5 now, or at least, not have to borrow as much to get a nice one. haha

Do yourself a favor... look for one a little bit south. These things do not hold up to salt at all.

Chippy, do you want me to find you another tire, I am sure I can locate atleast one more? Also, you want me to interceed on your behalf with the coilover situation? just let me know and I will get on it for you!

It's really no big deal, Marlon. Thanks though! I will email SU tomorrow about the coilovers to see if they have gotten them in yet. They told me by the end of the week (this past week). If they have not gotten them yet, I will probably just replace the rear shocks with OEM for now--I can order them monday night. As for the tire, it is no big deal either because I am looking at selling the 18 inch OZs and possibly buying a set of 17 inch wheels/tires. I would have been buying all that stuff on credit anyways, and it probably isn't the wisest decision to do that... At this point, I'm just glad I have a car that gets me from point A to point B and is fun as hell to drive while doing it!

Thanks for all the support and encouragement, though! We will see what happens... Here is a quick spread of some possibilities:

cheapest
OEM rear shocks-------$180
Paint for OEM wheels----$30
Total------------------$210 and I still have some money left over for brakes, maybe RSB

expensive
BC Coilovers------------$1000
Hankook Ventus V12-----$700
Total------------------$1700

Ideal
BC Coilovers--------------------$1000
17" Wheel/Tires from Tirerack---$1300
Minus OZs-----------------------$700 (800 minus the shipping)
Total--------------------------$1600

It could end up being any combination of the three scenarios above!

Are the "clean" ones around here to be trusted then? They're out there, but dealers are asking top dollar for them. Usually $6,000 for ones with 100-130K mi, and upwards of $7,000 or more for ones with under 100K.

I'll have around $3,500 cash by the time we get our return back. I'd LOVE to find one in that range, so I wouldn't have to finance the rest and have a payment, but the condition of the car would likely refelct in that price. Probably some rust here and there, and well over 150K mi. If the car was mechanically sound though, the rust wouldn't bother me much, as long as it wasn't big gaping holes or anything. lol I could compromise for the right price. I'm a body man, and I have my garage setup to do some side work now, so I can keep the body up on my own time.

If you go to 17's I can provide you with the 235/45/17''s I have, the Yokohama AD048's if you are interested. You kow I will give you a great deal on them. We can always work out payment arrangements t make it easier on you or I can also make you a deal on some Toyo R 88's as well. Just let me kow what you want to do, the toyo's are 235/40/17

Once they start rusting, they're a nightmare to keep up with. I actually gave up on mine and just let it be.

You ain't kidding! Even patchwork doesn't help, much, it prolongs the inevitable at best. Unless it was a really isolated area, and you could be 100% sure you removed all of the contaminated metal, not likely the case around quarter lips, since the inners are usually rusting as well. We have NO warranty on any rust repair we do at work, anything else is lifetime.

I may have to expand my search to some southern states. I've never purchased a car like that though, to drive or possibly fly all that way based only on pictures and the salesman's word. I'll have to look into it more...

Chippy I don't blame you for backing off on the mods. I think that it is far better to have cash in hand to buy stuff. Which is the only reason I don't have a credit card maxed out haha. Not to mention that if you have to use your car as your daily driver, mods can be a bad deal reliability wise.

+1 lol

I was mainly looking for simply a good, reliable DD that fits my/our needs better than our beater Cavalier. I know how much of a slippery slop modding a car can be though, and I'm already getting TONS of ideas on what I'd like to do to a p5! hahaha I've even seen some deals in the classified section that I thought about pulling the trigger on, and I don't even have the car yet!

^^^ Well as long as you don't expect the P5 to be fast then you'll be okay. We can go for a ride in my slow P5 at the BBQ if you like. And mine had a wee bit of rust when I bought it. 3 years later it's rusting a lot. But I love it and will just continue to repair the rust every spring.

i would LOVE to have a p5...i've looked online at a lot of them and almost bought one that had been flooded..but backed out because i just didn't trust it and the guy wouldn't come down in price

$3500 would get you one with very high miles...they are an overpriced car for the mileage

definitely go south or west for one :)

Haha...naw, I don't expect it to blow the doors off of anything, just as long as it's able to get out of it's own way. Our 190K Cavalier is a dog, but I have to imagine these are a tad bit faster than it, given 4-5 more years of technology. And even if they're not, I'm not looking for a race car, so it shouldn't be a big deal. It'd keep me out of the throttle more and hopefully keep my MPG up. lol

I didn't know if I would be stepping on any toes in asking for a ride on Saturday, so thank you for offering! I'll definitely take you up on that. Even though I'm not interested in any local p5's yet, I was still going to test drive some to get a feel for the ride, and which tranny I want.

If you find one in the Atlanta area I can take a look at it for you.

Thanks! I will look in the area and let you know.

At what point would a high mileage one be worth it? What kind of maintenence would be needed to keep it going? Or should I start looking at motors?
