Major Problem

Yesterday as I am leaving a friends I approach an up ramp and downshift to get into the flow of traffic. As I accelerate everything is normal until about 4XXX RPM. As I hit that mark the car shudders hard and feels as though I hit something and makes a loud bang. But as long as im out of boost it does not do this. I tried this again and once again at the 4XXX RPM mark the car does the same thing. What could this be? I was thinking wastegate or something simmilar becuase it is obviously a turbo issue.

For the tenth time this week - this is FUEL CUT. For some reason the stock MSP ECU does not like lots of boost in cold weather. Do you have/what are your mods? Have a boost controller? Vacuum/Boost look good? If you've got a manual boost controller - turn it down. If it's none of that, yes, check your wastegate actuator - blow throw the vacuum line; if it holds pressure it's good, if not, it's bad. That's really about it...

No im completely stock other than a filter on my maf. So then if you are correct than it appears to be my waste gate actuator. Thanks for the help.

Definitely get a boost gauge so you can see what's up. If you're boosting more than like 6 psi then something is wrong.

Yup, get a boost guage just to verify you are not overboosting. Has it been colder than usual where you live? You could always just reinstall your stock airbox and see if the problem persists. I never had luck with a cone filter here in the NE during winter. Fuelcut central.

It has been really cold here lately, so you are probably experiencing fuel cut.

i don't understand how, with the numerous faulty wastegate issues, cracking intercooler tubes, boost or vacuum leaks, etc etc that people who own a four year old msp cannot simply at least own a boost gauge.

I just found it funny we've had like 10 different threads in the last week in which people have something "wrong" with their car when it is clearly fuel cut. I guess I'm just used to the last generation of MSP owners who had everything worked out but now most of them have moved on and now we have the next generation. I don't mind answering questions especially when the answer is buried but when we have so many people asking the same question it does get kind of annoying.

Either way, fuel cut isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's one of the car's methods of preventing itself from exploding!
