Winter Tires

LOL, guess we got more problems. LM-25's arn't available in 215/50/17. Only 205/50/17. I'd prefer the 215/50/17 or 205/55/17 to keep the rolling diameter the same.

So NOW..we're finally tryin to order the Winter Sport M3's overnight from (get this..) TIRE RACK! They're just ordering them from there because they can't get here any sooner from their own warehouse.

even better yet... you'll finally get the m3s after all... I wonder how Discount tire makes money off of that deal since they would have to give you them for the tirerack price ($137 w/o road hazard) and I imagine tirerack doesn't have much room to move in the price they quote DTD.

Anyway I was going to switch to my winter set (the M3s) today but its forecasted to rain all day(pissed). I could try to switch them out in my 1 car garage but I might just wait until tomorrow. I'll post a pic when there mounted.

Yeah they pretty much said they're losing money on the deal, but i've got their quote in paperwork, I put a deposit on the wheels and tires Monday, got a printout of the pricing quote. He's pretty much the one who offered the idea of doing it that way, by ordering through TireRack and I paid shipping. Even if I had to, I wouldn't mind.

It's either that or I settle with WS-60's and hope they don't suck as bad as they claim. Or get the smaller LM-25's.

i want to run winter tires on my stock wheels is that okay?

Yes, although 18" snow tires are quite expensive. It would probably be equal to buying 16" steelies and 16" snow tires. Then twice a year you would save on not having to pay for the winter tires to be taken off/installed on your 18" rims.

I would suggest checking Craig's List for wheels and even tires/combos. I sold some older ones and bought a very nice set of winter ones on there just 3-4 weeks ago. Now there are tons of posts with them for sale. Keep checking.

I am trying to take off my oem summer set to put on my winter set up and the goddamn wheel lock key doesn't fit the wheel lock . WTF!!.. Needless to say I am really pissed off . I have never heard of such nonsense before. For the heck of it I tried the my wife's wheel lock key on our honda pilot and that fit right in the honda lug nut, so I know how it should work. I don't want to have to go to the f'n dealer to switch my tires. Does anyone have any experience with this?

just to state the obvious but you rotated the lug key on the lug throu all possible orientations, right? They usually only fit one way and sometimes they are kind of a tough fit.

If it absolutely won't work, you can try one of the emergency lug remover tools or one of those locking-lug remover kits that you can get OR you can go down to your dealership and have them fix it for you (since presumably it was their screwup - it's part of the pre-delivery inspection to check lugnut torque and they would have had to have an adapter to check those locking lugs) or take it to any wheel/tire store and pay them a small fee to pull them and replace them with normal lugs or sell you the adapter if they happen to have one.

Personally, I had the dealership remove the locking lugs as they are useless to me - I prefer just standard lugs.

exactly....they are only going to prevent the 10% of the population of crooks from getting your wheels anyway. besides, I would love to have someone steel my stock 18's. I'd use the insurance money to buy some kick ass light weight ones and likely still have money left over.

yeah i tried all of them... its the wrong key.. stupid dumbasses at mazda and the dealer ( I do love the car so much that I am willing to let it slide)

anyway i went to sears and they removed them for 20 bucks... ireally couldn't wait... i then went home and mounted my winter set and they look great... tirerack even inflated all the tires to the correct pressure.. what a great outfit....

As soon as I figure out now to upload my pics (I took them with a sony 10.1 megapixel cam), I will. I plan on contacting Mazda and the dealer in the hopes they will reimburse me for locks and the cost of getting them removed. If I would of had a flat tire I wouldn't have been able to mount the spare and I would've had to had my car towed.... That is absolute bulls***.... to hell with those wheel locks .... if a criminal want the wheels they'll find a way to get them off anyhow.

It's only a preventative measure. The longer it takes for them to take your wheels, the less likely they'll stick around for the job.

My dad told me all they have to is bust the lug entirely and find a way to wrench them off.

put my winters back on today... cold temps for the forseeable forecast with occasional dustings of snow... and ski season starts next week!

Jealous!!! I can't wait to get mine tomorrow or Wednesday!

Well I got to experience 6-8" of fresh powder today while on business in SW Michigan. Lake effect kicked in and gave the area 4" yesterday and 6-8" more last night.

The LM-25's did great. Compared to previous WS-50's I've had on larger sedans, now handling was on par, with only a slight noticable difference being on the sheets of ice in the parkinglot of the hotel. I attribute that more to the car vs the tires though. My last vehicle in simliar situations was an Accord V6 Auto vs this little bugger.

Stability control functions well as expected. TC kicked in if pushed of course, but the LSD did make coming out of a turn a bit of fun when desired :)

Overall, I'm quite happy, especially considering they are extremely quiet and handle like a performance all-season tire on dry land.

Finally picked up my tires! My gf met me at the shop so I could put my stockers in her car, till I found out they were about a 1.5 hour wait. The lobby was packed with people and I was walking in about 10 minutes to close. So I said "Don't worry about it, i'll install it myself". My salesperson Brian wasn't there, so I dealt with the manager Chris. First we discovered that the stock lug nuts arn't going to fit. So he tossed in a bag of lug nuts free. We had a half an hour wait, so we went next door to Wendy's and had some dinner. The guy walked over and let us know they were all done, very nice of them! We loaded the CX-7 up and I paid for everything (didn't have to pay shipping nor for the lugs!). I was very pleased with the service and everyone from the salespeople to the technicians were extremely professional and courteous. I brought them inside and pulled one out to take pictures of it. Tires are brand new too, 26th week of 08 was when they were born lol.
