Winter Tires

The advantage of living near Raleigh (God I love mild winters). When the stock tires wore out (just in time for winter) I put a set of Kuhmo all seasons on the factory rims and called them the winter set. When spring rolled around I bought a set of dedicate summer rims/tires. The snow gets deep enough to require real winter tires, I'm taking the wife's Ram 1500 to work or logging in from home. Which reminds me, it's time to swap them out. Guess I'll be visiting the storage unit this weekend.

heres my situation, i wanna run some nobby tires for winter on my stock rims, and get a set of rota p1s to use with stock tires for the other 3 seasons. i live in the northeast and what would be the best bet of tires to order, i heard blizztechs are some of the best out.

I bought these for my stock wheels

Michelins x-ice!

Those are the same ones that I was considering thus it might be a bit soft when it's dry. I keep hearing about the tread squirm which I've experience over the years with other snow manufactures when they are Q rated. I think personally I'm going to go with 225/40/18s there are SO many more choices to pick from.

Everyone seems to be doing 205/50/17's, but when I went to discount tire yesterday, I got 215/50/17" Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3's. The stock tires seem so damn skinny to me, I can't imagine going any smaller than that. The guy recommended it, but I asked that I rather not go that small.

205/55R16 is about 0.7 inches too small in diameter. It will make your speedometer read high and run up the mileage on your odometer prematurely.

the Revo1 has tiny carbide particles in the rubber mixture that are supposed to help it grip on wet ice better than just rubber. It also has a denser tread pattern and a slightly firmer compound. This means it doesn't grip quite as well on cold dry ice or snow as well as the WS-60 which uses a newer compound.

The REVO1 is discontinued. Any tires you find are likely pretty old.

I just put on a set of the Revo1's in 215/55/16.

You'll be fine. at 60mph, your speedo will be off by .7mph reading 61mph. Mileage wise, it's neglegable as after 10,000 miles you'll only be reading 121 miles more.

Stock 18 wheels 25.6" --- Your snow shoes 25.3"

My 205/50/17's have a nice low profile look and measure 25.1" and I love them.

i just picked up some 225/40/18 Dunlop Wintersport 3D's everything i read about em is amazing. Price was kinda high, but I plan on keeping my stock rims as winter tires, because i dont want to get rid of the stock rims, and picking up some nice wide rims next spring.

Silver.... I also got 215 50 17s for my 08.5 MS3, Dunlop Wintersport M3 shipped from tirerack on msw 14 17inch 5 star alloys. They look great and I am very pleased with tirerack..ordered on sunday...at my door today. I will probably mountthem and if anyone wants I can post a pick. After reading over tire reviews for some time... I finally settled on the M3s. As for the size.... I didn't want to deal with all the hassle of worrying about the front brakes and if 16s would fit. When comparing this tire and a similar dunlop 3d on 16 inch alloy that had the look I was looking for... the diff in price between 16s and 17s was negligible in my opinion... total cost 1100 ish with shipping, road hazard warranty without TPMS.

Sounds good!

I got my 17" MB Gear's and 215/50/17" M3's for $1000 OTD with road hazard warranty.

Any rim recommendations to fit Blizzak Revo 1 205/55/R16
and is $250 a good price for used ones with 8/32 tread left?

Rock the steelies! I don't know if TireRack still have the Revo1 in stock any more but I picked up some brand new ones (same size) for $268 plus shipping a little over a month ago.

Same wheel I bought. I just put them on a couple of days ago and they look pretty good, IMO. Now that you have had them 3-4 weeks have you had any issues with the wheel/caliper clearance?

Uh, it's safe to say that unless his wheels & tires shrunk, there's no reason to think he'll have clearance issues now when he didn't have any from day 1. Plus the fact that if you got them from TireRack, I think they make certain they don't sell you a wheel & tire package that you can't safely run.
