What have you done to your P5 today?

No, they didnt break, the screws tend to come undone. Perhaps a more knowledgeable member can articulate. Its a factory problem from what I understand. If you have the inclination, I'd say take the top half of the intake off, or, better still, the two valve rod thingies, give them a slight tug. If they come out, period, there aren't any butterflys on it! It would be the bottom valve rod. Im crap at 'splaining. But yeah, I pulled the rod out and shouldn't have been able to. I found three replacement screws and put em back together. Used some red loctite and as good as new... Sorta.

Ill post pics tomorrow but yeah, cylinder 1 (or 4, basically the int nearest the battery) had some lovely marks from what seems like (was) a screw... :( I said eff it and ill just ride with one knackered piston till I finally blow it. Then, time to start looking for that KL. hopefully I won't be just talking and will actually get it done.

Any hints or pointers on how to go about perhaps bringing the whole butterfly valve mishap up with Mazda or should I not even bother??? Im guessing it is probably going to be more hassle than its worth given the fact that I doubt there's even a hint of a warranty on the engine anymore.

If you're really paranoid (and have the time, tools, and assistance), you can take off your intake manifold and go ahead and loctite these bolts as a preventative measure. I did a while back because I had a rattle that matched the description of the famous VICS screw-tastrophe (turned out that wasn't it). It's not an easy or quick job though, and you'll need a ton of assorted u-joint and wobble extension adapters to get to some of the bolts.

This is just general info, not really aimed at anyone in particular. I just like hearing myself talk. (direct)

So quick question (hopefully): I have had an Optima Red Top in for over 7 years. Running aftermarket stereo with amp, head unit and sub (nothing crazy) and plug & play HIDs along with Unorthodox UD pulley. Ever since I switched to UDP, i have had problems with squealing belts (normal from what I've read). One mechanic got it right finally fro a couple of years then I had belts, water pump, etc done and voila squealing belts again. Belt squealing is temporary and goes away after a couple of minutes. I have a volt gauge attached and noticed at 14 there is no squeal with lights off. The second I put lights on it drops to 12 and squealing starts. At this point I am sure that belts are getting chewed up again and need to be replaced, but I am curious if a dying battery could also be contributing to issues. If I leave the car in the garage for about 3 days or more it is almost guaranteed to not start and requires a jump. Thanks in advance, just trying to finally solve the issue and stop annoying the neighbors ;)

From what I did, I had the whole mani off. The only real PITA was getting it off the mount. If you have the inclination to lift the car, there are two 14 mm bolts holding it to the bracket. Then the fuel rail and all the lovely vacuum hoses come out and voila! That's how I did it at least but that was cause I took the head and all that jazz off.

mind you, in thinking back, my pal did it. IIRC, you may be talking about the screws nearer the throttle body thing? I kinda forgot about that side. Oops :)

Replaced my SS brake line that got damaged last weekend and I only got it rebuilt last Monday. Did a Mod that you US guys have native, where my indicator lights, to the inner side now acts as a park light and indicator in one.

I didn't get nearly as much done to my P5 as I wanted to this weekend... :(

Ran the battery cable to the engine bay.

^ Clean

I finally put my batter in properly, installed a shorty antenna from a 2013 Matrix, sits about 4" above the roofline, and removed more OBD2 harness from the engine bay.

Put $25 in the tank and washed the windows at the local petrol pump. Came to realize it's time to give her one more good bath and wax before winter hits hard. Probably getting done over Thanksgiving break... probably not though. This college crap can end any time now... you know, with the whole not having time and stuff.

That's scary. I may be doing alot more than a timing set this winter. :/

its really not that hard. In all honesty, have someone who knows a little about cars and enjoy their company. You can get it done, im sure of it. The timing belt was more of a pain for mw but in your case, if you dont plan on taking the cams out, it'll be easy! :)

Thats clean man, looks really nice. I see thats a braille battery, what are the specs on it?

Thanks, Simon. I don't have any experience with it yet but Justin (with the red KL swapped Protege has been running it for a while in his DD so I don't foresee any issues.

Full specs can be found here

I was talking to bikingpro5 yesterday and he said why don't I move it behind the passenger seat or in the bucket for the rear seat. So I'm going to relocate it again. Plus then I'll be able to toss the OEM trunk carpet back it and it will look OEM. :)

ps- I gotta find your build thread out there. Miss that P5 beast.

Projectors are ready (just need to decide on a shroud and order some ccfl halos.

Painted the shields red

Those. Looks. Noice! :) really aggressive. I can assume the paint won't interfere with the tint of the light? Either way, they look menacing.

paint is only on the front side of the shield, so no interference with the light

and thanks guys. I've got a week and a half to finish them so i'll have more updates thoughout the week
