No, they didnt break, the screws tend to come undone. Perhaps a more knowledgeable member can articulate. Its a factory problem from what I understand. If you have the inclination, I'd say take the top half of the intake off, or, better still, the two valve rod thingies, give them a slight tug. If they come out, period, there aren't any butterflys on it! It would be the bottom valve rod. Im crap at 'splaining. But yeah, I pulled the rod out and shouldn't have been able to. I found three replacement screws and put em back together. Used some red loctite and as good as new... Sorta.
Ill post pics tomorrow but yeah, cylinder 1 (or 4, basically the int nearest the battery) had some lovely marks from what seems like (was) a screw...
I said eff it and ill just ride with one knackered piston till I finally blow it. Then, time to start looking for that KL. hopefully I won't be just talking and will actually get it done.
Any hints or pointers on how to go about perhaps bringing the whole butterfly valve mishap up with Mazda or should I not even bother??? Im guessing it is probably going to be more hassle than its worth given the fact that I doubt there's even a hint of a warranty on the engine anymore.
