2026 Mazda CX-5: Who’s actually getting one?

Was at the dealer this morning for some routine maint. on my 19 Reserve. Dealer had a decent amount of 26's. Had the salesman open one on the lot so I could sit in it and play around with the controls. Still has CD. Not sure about I-Stop. The off button was not on the left of the steering wheel like previous years, it may be buried in one of the menu screens.

The missing controls weren't as bad as I thought they'd be. The screen is big enough and the important buttons for climate control are across the bottom of the screen. Kinda like having a row of buttons but touch sensitive icons instead. Infotainment seemed pretty responsive. Will take some getting used to.

Dealer also had some 25 Signatures that were really nice and in the color that I'd like.

Hard decision - get a 25 now or wait till 27 for the hybrid. Probably will wait.

I'm new to Mazdas myself so not sure if there is another official term for cylinder deactivation, but I couldn't find anything about it in the owner's manual. I did find this for i-stop though:

It's been gloomy and raining here for a couple days, so couldn't get any great pics, but here you go. I'm an avid mountain biker so we had the Mazda hitch installed before we brought it home. The Polymetal Gray Metallic changes quite a bit with whatever ambient light.

Tks for sharing! Is the key fob the same as previous gen with the tiny buttons on the side?

I think my biggest issue is if and when there's a firmware issue or some other issue with the screen, there goes all your controls.

Dealers have been plastering their logos on car bodies for ages. I remember them from at least the 1950's and probably long before that. I don't recall seeing the frame advertising from that era, although it probably also did exist back then...

That kind of thing didn't fly in Calif until relatively recently. License plate frames definitely came first.

It certainly is cost. With the new tariffs and CX5 tech addons it prob would have been priced at 45-46k or more. One can get a Lexus NX or other luxury cars more or less for upper 40s. Plus supporting two engines on the production line.

Don't they still have the turbos for the CX-30's and CX-9's? That's 2 different engines on the line.

The CX-9 isn't in production anymore, is it? They have three different engines in the CX-50 so it isn't unusual. I personally think they should have either waited to release the new CX-5 until the hybrid was ready or continue the turbo until the hybrid was released.

It looks like I-Stop lives, they just made it harder to deactivate by burying in the menus. The salesman said the young hipsters like all the high-tech stuff.

Didn't get a chance to see the FOB, the salesman had it as he stood near the car.

its the same "new" bulky one. The old thin one is gone.

Istop is now very hard to disable with mechanical and semi-electronic methods like in the previous gen.

yes of course on the tech stuff see Kia recent sales going up up up while Mazda was falling last quarters and year. Plus then tariffs hit them hard.

Mazda is just following the trend. Its good design nevertheless even with the hate for the digital screens everywhere. Almost everyone is going there nowadays. I am pretty sure the CX5 will sell a lot.

I don’t tolerate the dealership advertising on my vehicle either. Just imagine back in the 1970s, when the dealer advertising was a big metal emblem… attached with screws!

I hated it so much!

Edit: The screw holes were hard to cover with decals. I do respect the dealership for staying in business for 64 years. They closed in 2021.

^^^bingo...buttons are better but cost more overall to make, hence why all cars are going to screens...cause where are you going to have to go when the screen has an issue?...dealer...button issue could be fixed diy or mechanic
