What have you done to your P5 today?

"I was 17 and reading a driver's ed. book before I realized that the mirror that hung from the windshield in the car was the REAR VIEW mirror. After hearing my family call it the 'reahview' my whole life, I thought it was REview mirror - so that you could review what you just passed, naturally."

just ask Chris.. he can vouch for my lack of accent. :D

Like I said it's just really slight :)

Well I just made it to work. o_O (pissed)(pissed)(pissed)(pissed)(pissed)(pissed)(pissed)(pissed)

Spark plugs ... 11 dollars (NGK v-power that i'll probably have to replace again tomorrow)
Found a store that carries royal purple synthetic oil, bought a case... 97 dollars.
Holding a hair dryer over the holes where the spark plugs go to try and dry out any water in the combustion chambers of cylinders 1 and 3... priceless (almost).

No store had spark plug wires for me :'( Advance Auto Parts (Partsamerica.com) said that I might be able to order them online through them, because they are listed in the catalog but the computer won't let them place an order for them.

Pep Boys (ugh) listed some s*** generic brand for the Protege that was $135 dollars. They didn't have it in stock and it said "EXCEPT PROTEGE5" (?????).

Went to Auto Parts International, and they didn't have it in stock but said they'd have them in within the hour when the truck came. .. another crap brand (and by crap I mean non NGK or non-OEM), so I told him I'd call back if I couldn't find a place that had them in stock. He said he'd order them anyway, which was really nice of him.

The stumbling and misfiring is just as bad. At first when I put the new plugs in it was better (I used excessive amounts of dielectric grease EVERYWHERE so that rain water won't get in) and I made it out of my driveway, but then it got back to being really bad.

I had to keep it in 3rd gear on the highway at like 5k RPMs to prevent it from misfiring as it only misfires when I get on the throttle any more than a tiny bit. I stopped at a gas station to maybe try some more of that stuff that is supposed to move water from gas, but the station didn't have any so I left my car there and walked to the nearest place that I thought would (a Wegmans grocery store). All they had was STP "Fuel Treatment" that did mention it could remove water, and STP "Injector Cleaner". I bought two of the fuel treatment and one of the Injector cleaner and went to town on my car. Let her idle for like 15-20 minutes and it was still bad, so I just limped to work where I am now.

Sucks, I forgot my briefcase at the house >_<

I don't know where to go from here. I can order new spark plug wires from Mazda (was planning on it anyway, I don't like my Sparkco wires and they clash with my red valve cover now :P).. but maybe my coil packs are messed up? The two cylinders that aren't direct fire are the ones misfiring like crazy. Could the whole water thing have really screwed the spark plug cables?

Sucks that the place that ordered wires for me is so far from here or I'd go there during my lunch break.

omfg this sucks.

oh and is driving the car while it is misfiring and stuff totally terrible for the car? :'( I don't want to hurt her. I should have just rode my bike to work but it would take at least 90 minutes riding the Erie Canal trail to work :'(

Dang Chris, that's rough.

Well, what I am not doing to my P5 is driving it the next few days. I'm off to Six Flags. Later P5ers.

^^ trade for the next few days? :P

the more I research the more it looks like I just need plug wires. I'm going to give in and pay like 130 dollars for s***-brand wires so that my car is driveable if John Holtz Mazda can't help me :P

if you were closer id consider it but i dont wanna ride without one or weeks as you get mine and i get yours. lol

I'm not going to ship it via hoarse and rider. USPS will only take two or three days at most. Youre right......it will be riding ghetto style though.

OK I'm done pimping my stuff in this thread. Sorry.

Update: SHE LIVES!!!

new spark plug wires FTW. When I was pulling the sparkcos off the center pin electrode thing for my #2 cylinder fell off the wire. .. stupid crap solder job sparkco ARGHA RGHARGHARGH

Now I have some random no name 5mm wires.. they fit in the little holders on the coil packs again lol!

Anyone think there's any chance the water was introduced into my oil? I picked up a case of Royal Purple since I finally found a place that sells it, but I need to take my oil drain pans to get properly recycled somewhere before I can change my oil again.

I should go for a drive now, my car deserves it :) I hope I didn't do any permanent damage with all the misfiring and such.

This weekend ... time for rear motor mount inserts, cleaning the air filter, and while I have things apart maybe I'll clean the EGR again.
