What have you done to your Mazda6 today?

Just got back to mine, haven't driven it in 4 days. Missed being able to shift gears. Instead, the g/f and I went up north for a golfing trip and I drove her '09 6s instead, which wasn't the same.

Major Metra kit and after market head unit fail today. Spent about 5 hours installing and wiring the kit in. Hooked the battery up and turned the key and nothing. Only the A/C worked and no illumination on the ac display. I realized I kept blowing the ignition fuse. The wiring instructions with the kit are vague. It tells me to have a orange/white wire for the dimmer switch. and an orange wire for illumination! wtf. So I ran my illumination wire with my ignition. Since hey I want it illumitaed when the ignition is on... So I cut that wire. After blowing 5 fuses it now doesnt blow the ignition fuse. the radio cut on and so did the display for the temp and A/C. Ok the max volume is 50. I turn it up to 40 them volume starts coming out of the front right speaker and its very little if any.

Now the display up top works but only shows the time. All my interior lights no longer light up with the parking lights or at all for that matter. My most epic fail to date. and I dont know how to make it work. bummer. :(

Duse that sucks, now I'm convinced to just get a 3rd gen ipod and use Mazda's adapter.

Alrigt. I know where I went wrong. I tied both harnesses together and ran them to other power sources. Apparently my brain wasnt working today. I was just supposed to connect the wires on the metra harness to the aftermarket harness. Instead of together then to a ground, power, and everything else. I went outside right qwik and cut the wires coming to them so they were just connected to each other. Radio works fine now. I did have to change my rca location to get it to sound right. but it definetly sounds a lot better and 4x louder than it was with the stock headunit. My interior lights still arent coming on for some wierd reason. I hope I didnt fry anything hooking it up the way I did the first time.

Oh its not done yet! I still need to redo wiring tomorrow. And figure out why my interior lights dont come on. Pics to come.

I finally got around to swapping out my broken Perrin ebcs for the new one that is plug n' play today, as my CPE hpfp is FINALLY en route. I'm glad I went through the trouble of mounting the Perrin in the factory location, because I'm going to mount the meth failsafe bcs on one of the bolts on the firewall, where most people mount their ebcs (mount it in stock location... it fits, and looks better imo). With the factory location, you don't have to worrying about insulating against the constant "tick tick ticking" of the solenoid opening and closing. I don't have to worry about it w/ the fail safe bcs, because it will only tick once if it opens, lol. It's pretty cool... if there is any meth flow problem, instead of just tripping a led, it also opens a direct boost source to the top of the wg, so it limits boost to spring pressure immediately. Unlike an LED that you could miss, you def won't miss that, haha. I'm also having a toggle switch installed. I'm gonna just cart my AP around with me so if the FS trips, and I hit spring pressure, I can pull over, turn off the FS bcs (via toggle, thus allowing normal boost), and flash my non-meth map. Here's a schematic of what interrupt mode looks like, and below shows the FS bcs added into the mix. This is for the FS-10. The FS-30 works in reverse, and it was causing a lot of confusion between me and a buddy w/ the FS-30, so I drew the Picasso below:

^BTW you don't need an aftermarket ebcs in 'interrupt' mode to run a FS bcs with meth... you can run one w/ the factory bleed set up if you like.

I'm getting psyched to get my car fixed. The CPE pump is scheduled to arrive on Weds, and I'm getting a bunch of crap done on Thursday. I also picked up 4 bottles of Heet for the first tank of meth. I found a place in RI (~1hr drive) that sells pure methanol (99.9x) for only $5.50/gallon or something, so when I have more time next week, I'm gonna pick up 5 gallons of meth, and cut it with 5 gallons of distilled water. I hope that flushing my entire fuel system and putting in the CPE pump finally fixes my low idle pressure, and cutting at wot. We're almost positive there is debris in my hard fuel line and possibly my fuel rail that resulted from the catastrophic failure of my old PTP POS hpfp. I also had to replace my cam follower that was damaged in the process.

Douge- As far as mixing meth. I read some where you have to mix it by weight and not by volume.

Correct. If you want a true 50/50 mix, you need to mix by weight, not volume. However, if you do it by volume, it comes out to like 52/48 (or 48/52, I foget), which is close enough that it doesn't really matter. People run anywhere from 100/0 to 0/100, so I'll just tune for 52/48 (or whatever it is), just because it's much less of a pita. Thanks for the heads up tho bro :)

PS. I didn't open your vid the other day, because I wasn't near a wifi, so it would've taken forever to load it. I'll check it out now.

EDIT: Cool vid, looks like a fun road to drive on. You need a better camera dude!

i guess thats where i have aslight case of OCD... i constantly walk around mine... and unfourntinatly have a hawk eye for damage/imperfections... if i had work done like you just did i'd probably notice dirt in the paint before i got to noticing they smashed my tail light

oh lordy, my OCD kills me erry time i do a full detailed walk around.
6 dings, 5 major scratches, swirly marks throughout the paint, and rock chips galore on the front bumper... only a couple on the hood since it was repainted.

Been working on "restoring" it since i first bought it a year ago...
Man i can't believe it, it will be a FULL year on August 11th.
times flies, when you... uh... drive fast? lol

Recently shot a few decent pics of my car with the new DSLR i got before Europe.
Updated my CD site with em, looks pretty nice. still got LOTS to learn about photography though.
Also, took log of errything i still needed to fix... and took note of parts i can get this year for my car... sadly not much can be done this year due to that crazy Eurotrip costs... (silly)

I used my cell phone to take the vid. So not the best quality

Finished up my stereo install today. :D

Nice. That's weird that they make you put your inspection sticker in the middle of your windshield... never seen that before. Why did you change the factory head unit?

not bad qwik!! Does the metra kit have a double-din also? Just wish it came in the brushed aluminum look like our other trim pieces... vinyl time! :)

did you manage to figure out the non-working interior lights issue?

Because it sucked. I had jl audio door speakers. 600 watt amp. and then a 2000watt amp and 15" sub. It just didnt sound too good with the factory head unit. The volume couldnt get but so high. Changed it out to this and its a night and day difference. I say that volume 20 on this is as high as 30 was on the stocker. Not to mention this one goes up to 50. I cant crank it up that high as I start to go def around 30. It also sounds a lout cleaner. I no longer hear any power drawing accessories through the speakers.

^lol.

There is no double din kit out there. But there are some people that have done custom setups. It wouldnt be that hard to do if you had some time on your hands. I do wish that the finish match the stock. But I am going to wrap all the center pieces in 3m's carbon fiber vinyl.

I have not gotten my interior lights to work yet. I did find out that my dimmer switch no longer works. I am not sure whats going on there. I blew 2 fuses yesterday. None are blown today.

ah damn, well someday i wanna do a dbl-din touchscreen, a buddy wrks for pioneer, and i REALLY want the GPS/back-up cam/cd/mp3/aux/satellite radio head unit. pretty much does anything... i think it has a onboard PC option too. lolz

damn weird about the interior lights. maybe a ground got crossed and fried a few wires... i hope not!
