What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

tbholbrook-
car looks great! what's your take on the megan springs? are you still on stock struts? how's the ride quality?

nja-
Thanks man, I like the ride of the megan springs. It seem alot tighter around corners, not too stiff, still has a smooth ride. I would like to go lower than this. Yes, they are on the stock struts.

i am contemplating those springs, too. any harshness over broken pavement? (as compared to the stock ride)

thanks for answering my questions. trying to find anyone with these springs is difficult, let alone being able to talk to someone with them.

Well they are a little harsh on super rough roads but I also have the annoying front suspension klunk so I think im hearing that making me think it more harsh than it really is. I have only had them for about a week or so now, havnt had them long enough to give a better answer to you. I will keep you posted...

You mentioned you wanted to go lower. If you've had the springs only about a week or so, I'd wait another 2-3 weeks before they settle in. All lowering springs tend to get a tiny bit lower after they've settled in. After this, you can decide whether this springs meet your expectations or of coil-over is the way you want to go.

Thanks Davicho,
I would like to get the coil-overs down the road but these will work for now...!

Put in battery #4 last nite. Couple of grumbles: besides the fact I've owned it less than 4 years and have put in 2 batteries now, I have some beefs with Autozone now as well.

FYI, All, Autozone has raised battery prices and reduced warranties. Prices on red batteries, have been climbing up - now $100. They were $82 3 years ago. And, red batteries only have a 2 year free replacement, NO Pro-rata warranty past 2 years. Since batteries in the Mz5 tend to last about 3 years, that makes it a $100 throwaway battery. So you have to pay $120 for a 35D battery, which <pros> have better specs incl much better CCA, but <cons> is over 1" taller. Anyone who has already wrestled with the positive pole knows that the cables barely fit over the pole on the shorter batteries. Well, it did fit - BARELY with some work. All this was done near or below freezing, outside, with a good wind. Our weathercasters don't know what wind chill is, so I can't report what it was like, but bare hands, metal and grungy clothes so that battery acid won't burn holes in my winter gear summed up a night that was almost as bad as snow camping Fri nite at 8000' in 10" snow at temps between 9F and 19F.

Might be regional pricing? My Duralast Gold battery was only $120 new after core return. I've never had a problem with the pro-rated warranty on the Gold batteries- and I don't see any reason to go cheaper if the Reds are costing you the same amount of cash.

Installed a custom box with 15" Audiobahn sub, RFamp, cap and fuse block. And then took some foto's...!

Very nice! What vibrates the most back there? I'm going to fiberglass a 10" into the false floor (I think there's about 1.2 cuft of volume accounting for the spare), and would like to know what to add Dynamat to while everything's apart...

Today : Dodge Journey short antenna
Weekend : i'll try to have my oil change and install my HID's !
To come : waiting on my speed catback :(

Today : Washed the winter crud off put new Hic rain guards on and corksport shorty antanna...!

^^ nicely lowered. I also like the Thule wind fairing :p

I changed the keyfob battery (CR1616?) as it started to randomly fail, found it in eBay for a couple of bucks. Battery just lasted 5 years, piece of junk! ;)

Yo tbholbrook. I couldn't help to notice that you have a fairing and you also have a sunroof. Can you use your sunroof with the fairing in place? I want to get one but I hadn't seen anyone with it on a sunroof model MZ5. Please let me know. TIA.

Davicho, I ran without the fairing and my racks had a bad whistle so i put the fairing on.. It works best with the sunroof closed but It does work with it open just rattles. I did see a member in here that got the wind guard and also has the fairing resting on It. I like the sleekness of no wind guard though, Imoa...!

Thanks a lot for clearing that up for me. I think I will stick to my set up then. I still got the mini snap-on fairings that the OEM roof rack comes with. Except I have re-configure them from what the instruction manual says to put them (None in the rear bar and two small ones in each side of the front bar and the large one dead smack in the middle). Plus I also have the sunroof deflector. I find it bearable and not that much louder with that set up then with no rack at all and opening the sunroof.

Moving right along on some initial mods. I will grab some pics this weekend when I have time.

1. Window Tint 5% rear/20% front
2. Shorty Antennae
3. 6000k HIDs
4. LED Tail light bulbs, LED License plate bulbs (more bulbs to come)
5. Removed door guards

Any other suggestions on affordable and simple mods? Rola Roof rack will be coming in the next few months as well.

led interior lights
dome lights front map lights

and maybe adding foot well lights

you can also change the light for the shifter
