What did you pay for your 08 CX-9

My dealer left me a voicemail and told me that my lease contract paperwork through Mazda didn't complete - a paperwork snafu and Mazda Acceptance Corp could not accept the application. So now, I have a new CX9 with no lease in place. Here is what I was supposed to have:

Setting the Price:
2008 CX-9, Black Cherry Mica/Sand Leather
GT Assistance Package
Moonroof/Bose/6 CD Package
Blind Spot Monitoring
Compass/Homelink Mirror
Tow Package
Wheel Locks

MSRP: $39,300
Negotiated: $36,100

Additional Items:
20" Chrome Wheels: $550
Lojack: $400
Teflon Exterior/Scotchgard Interior aka "Touch of Class" (cheesy name, I know): $300
Cargo Mat: $0
Cargo Net: $0
Additional Items Total: $1250

Acquisition Fee: $595

Lease Data:
MSRP: 39300
Cap Cost: 37945 = 36100+1250(additional items)+595(acquisition fee)
Cap Cost Reduction: 750 (lease credit rebate)
Residual Factor: 50%
Term: 36 months for 15K miles/year
Money Factor: 0.00218 <<--this is where I think I may have been duped... (Tier 2 credit, Exp: 574, I also had my TU pulled and came back with a 710)
Base: 611.28
Tax: 47.37 (California Sales Tax of 7.75%)
Monthly Payment: 658.65

Is it possible to place any other lease (with hopefully better terms ie. more favorable residual value or lower money factor) in this position to beat the deal I was getting from Mazda Acceptance Corp with another lease contract. I understand I may have to forego the CCR of $750. Any thoughts? The vehicle was "delivered" to me on 12/28.

Ouch! My CX-9 had a MSRP similar to yours, and my monthly lease payment is $527 (includes tax), 36 months, 12K a year. There was no money out of my pocket (they made my first payment).

My dealership also screwed up my lease contract twice, forcing me to return and sign 2 times. First time they forgot the rebate and charged too much for excess miles. Second time was because the acquisition fee was listed as $575, not $595. They tried to just give Mazda Credit $20, but no, they made them redo the contract again.

I've heard either in this forum or the Edmunds Mazda CX-9 Forum that a San Francisco Bay area dealership has been consistently selling at $500-$600 below dealer invoice. I've been trying to locate the thread which mentions the dealerships name. Could anyone help me out and tell me the dealership's name? Thanks in advance...

We had agreed to purchase an 08 Touring AWD that hadn't arrived at the dealer yet. Since we had already turned in our leased Pilot, they gave us a fully loaded GT as a loaner. After driving it for a week, we decided to upgrade to a GT. So today, we took delivery of an 08 GT AWD Galaxy Gray, 6 disk, blind spot, remote start.

MSRP $36,390
Invoice $33,768
Paid $33,168

Lease Negotiation Redux:
After talking the terms of the defunct deal, I reviewed what would persuade me to "keep the CX9". This is where I am at...

This is what I had...

What are you thoughts on this???

Finally Getting One

After much deliberation with the local Hawaii dealers and even giving them a chance to meet the California dealer's price, my CX-9 is finally being shipped to Hawaii as you read this post. By the way, has anyone noticed that the 08 Mazda CX-9 Brochure advertises the Blind Spot Monitoring System as a standard item in the GT model? Every Dealer I spoke to says it's a $200 add-on option for the (not pre) 08 GT Models (Pre-08 Models don't offer it and was told it cannot be installed at the dealer). False advertising don't you think???

Here is my configuration and pricing:

2008 Mazda CX-9 FWD (Grand Touring 4dr SUV 3.7L 6cyl 6A)
MSRP INVOICE
National Base Price: $33,355 $30,842
Destination Charge: $635 $635
Optional Equipment --
Moonroof and Bose Audio Package (1MC): $1,760 1,514
Grand Touring Assistance Package (2PA): $2,500 $2,150
Blind Spot Monitoring System (BS1): $200 $172
Black Leather (TB2L): $0 $0
Total with options: $38,450 $35,313 (Internet Invoice Price)

California dealer said his Invoice on this was: $35,415
His Document Fee: $55
Grand Total Before Shipping: $35,470

(No California Excise Tax Required on Car Sale)

Matson Shipping to Hawaii (Includes Cal. Excise Tax): $1,055

Total After Shipping: $36,525

Hawaii Import Tax on $35,470 (4.5%) add: $1,596.15

Hawaii Registration and Tags Approximately: $221

*************** Grand Total - $38,342.15 ****************

I asked the Hawaii Dealers to Match the OTD price minus registration and tags ($38,121.15). They Flat Out Said NO WAY!!!

The best deal the Hawaii dealers would offer me on this car was $37,950+Fees, Taxes, and Registration:

Fees (Destination): $635

Hawaii State Tax (4.721%) on $37, 950: $1,791.62

Registration & Tags: $221

Hawaii Dealer Grand Total OTD: $40,597.62

Savings From California Cost ($40,597.63-$38,342.15): $2,255.47

Hawaii buyers buying from California Do Not Need to pay Import tax on the shipping cost as Matson includes California Sales Tax (which is greater than the Hawaii Import tax of 4.5%) in their charges! Don't be double taxed on shipping!!!

Good Luck to everyone in buying their future CX-9...it pays to do your homework!!! (cheers2)

Love me some zoom-zoom....

Just picked up my 08 Sparkling Black Mica GT FWD CX-9 w/Nav/RSES/Assistance package and 20's!!!!! What a sweet ride. Only 40 miles on it but i'm in love. Rides better that my 06 Mazda 6S. 35,725$ before taxes, tags and goddam dealer fees. First oil change is free and i get free wash/detaling for a year. Oil changes 20 bux after first one forever.......Mazdacoupon.com gave me a coupon w/ 4100$ off MSRP of 39,825. I pulled it out after dealer gave me his best price. Dealer took a 1600$ hit the car. Oh and the Blind spot thing is the s*** in Fl where people cant drive to save their lives.

After months of researching, weeks of negotiations with various dealerships, and deliberations with friends and family on which is the best color option for the CX-9, I finally placed a deposit for a yet to be built CX-9 GT FWD. >>>

Copper Red Mica/Sand Interior w/ GT Assist, RSES, BSMS, Homelink Compass Mirror, Roof Rack, Cargo Net & Wheel Locks. MSRP with Destination: $39,865
Negotiated Price: $36,072 (no dealer fee) + TTT. (woowoo) I think it's a reasonable deal considering it's early in the year.

Now comes the hard part.. the waiting. . . eta Late March

Looking forward to being part of CX-9 family and owning my first Mazda! =)

WOW! I'm feeling pretty good right now. We just bought ours last Thursday.

Moon roof with Bose system
Blind spot monitoring

Traded a 2000 ML320 with 80k miles in good shape for $5,500.
Put down $11,000 cash.
6.25% tax.
~$250 in fees.

Holy carp! Nice going. Guess things are especially tough for that dealership.

In Costa Rica they only sell the Fully Loaded GT Taxes are high about 63%. You may buy the base model but difference in price is minor.

Fully Loaded $ 58,000. If you cry alot to the manager maybe $55,000.

There are a lot of CX-9 in here, because a BMW X5 goes for $83,000 +
Honda Pilot $68,000

Just bought my CX-9 this morning, we are super excited and it was a lot of fun driving the winding back roads home.

I first negotiated a great deal for a Touring model (see this thread) but I was in the process of moving and by the time I completed my move and was ready to make the purchase the car we wanted was gone.

So here is the deal we ended up with:

2008 CX-9 Grand Touring AWD
LIQUID PLATINUM METALLIC
GT ASSIST PACKAGE
MOONROOF/BOSE
BLIND SPOT MONITORING SYSTEM
CARGO MAT
CARGO NET
ROOF RAILS + CROSSBARS
WHEEL LOCKS
MSRP: $40,382

We Paid: $30,182 = $10200 Discount

I am pretty stoked about the deal we got. I got the deal by emailing all of the Mazda dealers within 200 miles that had CX-9's that matched the color & options we wanted using the Search Inventory feature on the MazdaUsa.com website and then getting the dealerships to compete with each other.

You don't like your CX-9 after you have had it for a while? Why would you rather have the Highlander?

Well CX-9 is sure a nice crossover but when I first test drove it it seemed like a prince but it turns out it was actually a frog, first of all the mazda dealer/service in my area sux, they dont even care about their customers. I ve been visiting them for a while cause of the weird noise coming from steering wheel but they always ignore and say everything is cool chill out. I got mechanic friends and they say i got a problem with struts or sumtin but mazda dealer says its oke. When I got cx-9, toyota havent released their all new highlander at that time, so I test drove murano, lincoln mkz, honda pilot, buick enclave, gmc acadia and cx-9, ofcourse cx-9 was the best of them. After a while I started having problems with my cx-9 and the interior design becomes boring. Its really cool at nights but in day time cheap plastic kinda annoys you, you know what I mean. Anyway I went to toyota dealer and took a look at the all new highlander and it was amazing, not the exterior but the interior quality is way better than cx-9. Engine responses faster and better on gas. And higlander can go up to 60 mph in 7 seconds which is fast for a crossover. I filled my gas tank last week and today I got no gas, and the odometer shows that I had 244 miles since I filled the gas tank. I know i drove it in DC traffic but come on its just 273 hp V6. Anyway I just wish I bought the highlander or audi q7, I cant compare audi q7 with cx-9 or highlander but highlander is a great suv for the price. By the way there is a new 4 cylinder version of highlander is coming, I would get one if I was on market for a new suv.

the weight of the car is what gives you the bad mileage, esp in traffic as you are constantly accelerating. Believe me if you drove the highlander like that you would get the same mileage. And the Q7 gets worse mileage as it is heavier.
Speaking of the Q7, my friend has the 8 cyl S-line. $80,000 car basically. We both like the CX-9 interior better overall, ecept for the dash components and switches where Audi excels. But the leather and door trim- no question that the CX-9 looks like the expensive car while the Q7 panels look like plastic. The fake leather is glossy while the mazda uses nicer matte materials and textures. As for driving, even though his has 8 cyl, we both like driving the CX-9 better. The CX-9 actually feels much lighter and sportier.
I am the same way- always wondering what the other cars would be like. It is human nature. Your CX-9 is better than the highlander and Q7. I wouldn't trade mine for either.

Well you are right about the Q7, i know it gets worse mileage but when I drive it I feel more secure I dont know why, you know what I guess thats because my cx-9 is fwd. I should have got the awd one. You know when I kick down, the front wheels start spinning and it gets hard to control the car but I never had that problem with my old ml55, you know this is my first fwd car maybe thats why I just dont like the way it goes and way it looks anymore. I cant say the leather quality of cx-9 is bad, its even better than the x5, I just wish the dashboard was covered with leather as well. And the biggest thing I hate is the steering wheel. Its too thin and feels not comfy.

I would have to agree with the others that the CX-9 interior is MUCH nicer in my Grand Touring CX-9 than my friend's Pilot or the Highlander I looked at.

The Highlander has a tiny third row seat, which to me makes buying a crossover worthless. The reason I want a crossover is to be able to haul 7 people around and I want them to be fairly comfortable.

It all comes down to opinion though at the end of the day. I am loving my CX-9 GT, especially for $30K.

Well you only paid 30K for your cx-9 and its fully loaded and awd. If I paid 30K for my cx-9, I d never ever concern anything about my car. The reason I'm mad is stupid dealer doesnt care bout customers, they smile til you signed the paperwork. I paid 34K and mine is gt fwd , i dont even have the navigation on dash. And yes the dashboard with navigation looks nice.

Ah, that makes sense - very understandable.
