sheesh, if i get one more email about a response to this absolutely SILLY thread............................................

king of factory forced induction? Gotta be porche or saab. Both have been doing it since the 70's continuously.

sheer number of cars with turbo, saab hands down. Earliest automotive turbo? GM with the corvair.

none of those were the answer you thought it was :) but they are right.

As far as most turbo boost right now, hard to find numbers to verify.

That's crap. Listen to the discussions on here some time. Pick a car you might compare the MS3 to and inevitably someone will fall back to some lame cop out instead of appreciating the merits of the other vehicle. "SRT-4? Sure it's fast but it's UGLY! GTI? Slow! VR6? AWD and all but too pricey. STI? It's not worth 10k more! Evo? Hells naw, drives too raw, and it's not a hatch!" While there is nothing wrong with those arguments, they come out at the expense of ever acknowledging another car having any merit. I talk this stuff with people all the time, and somehow we manage to discuss vehicles without sounding like fan boys or a Mazda marketing wing. It's annoying as hell to see on here.

I don't need pointers on how to compare vehicles, either. My point has nothing to do with that. When people on here make comparisons to similar vehicles, it's a circle jerk for the Mazdaspeed3. Remember any of the Caliber SRT-4 threads? "It's as fast as the MS3 -> Yea but it's ugly." Or "There is a big after market community -> Yea well it needs it!" Or "Price is pretty similar -> Yea well we get more for the same price, plus the interior is crap!" Never would anyone on here say "Yea, it's about as fast, with a strong after market, and a pretty similar price."

When people on here make comparisons to vehicles we have no business trying to compare to, it's another circle jerk for the Mazdaspeed3. STIs, RX-8s, S2000's, Evo's, SRT-8 Jeeps, etc etc etc. "Faster, sure, but we're cheaper! We win!" "Rear wheel drive, sure, but we can seat four!" "AWD, who cares? I can fit a big screen in my car!" "Hah, okay, so it walks away from my car, but I get better mileage."

The scope of the comparison shifts depending on if we are losing or not. If it's a comparison about speed and we're not winning, price and functionality are injected into the conversation so we still "win." If it's about driving fun and handling and we're not winning, straight line speed and price are injected into the conversation so we still "win." It's bull. I'm starting to wonder if I'm driving a car or Jesus, since it can apparently do no wrong.
Brilliant post. +1 for the Enthusiast and not the fan boy.(cabpatch)
